Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Common Review and Pay Raises

I have never worked for a company where you put in such hard work and then are not compensated. 2% raises across the board for our team. And the bonuses were a slap in the face! The raise is more of a cost of living increase at best. UHG is the worse company to work for when it comes to how they figure out compensation and bonuses. Your boss says you are great and your performance is above your peers and yet we all get the same amount of increase...and it’s not even noticeable because it’s 2%. Please tell me this is only a QFO/Optum thing and not the whole company? From what I can tell on previous posts this might be company wide??? How is it that a company that makes so much money a year can’t put some of it towards compensation for their employees. I should be thankful to have a job but being let go at this point sounds appealing. Surely not all companies treat their employees like this.

God they are terrible. I stay looking for new jobs. Unfortunately they set the standard pay for "high paid" 50-60k coders. Probably going to try to be a dr-g rep. I've been coding for UNH for 10 years and wasn't able to start a family due horrible pay. The jokes on them when they have nobody to insure in the future besides illegal immigrants.

I have an inkling that those who received no raise or bonus will be laid off

One of the most difficult things I ever had to do was try and explain to each member of a hardworking team they are average. Also, communicating no one is getting a raise or bonus without any valid explanation from senior leadership why, while the company is making profit hand over fist is something no one wants to hear or accept. I have a great team and each of one of them always goes above and beyond every day, but for what? Merits, RRP, promotions and including Bravos are all controlled by the company's bottom line. Worst part, the supervisors are told what overall rating to give out and how many, based on a bell curve. Just to be considered for promotion, the employee must have an overall score of a 5 for 2 years in a row. If you're unfortunately on a small team and the supervisor can only give out one 5 per year, so only 1 employee can be promoted every 2 years. Think about the impact and the morale for the rest of a great team. Why should the employees be victim of poor leadership that cannot manage their groups properly? Its unethical.

2nd year with no raise. No cost of living increase. Was probably told the same exact canned excuse as the year before.
I've already interviewed and accepted a new job with a new company. My start date will be early March. I'm praying I'll be laid off before then. I've already decided not to give notice.

I received a 4% raise and a high bonus. So I'm not sure about this 2% claim.

1-2% is not a raise. At any other company it's considered a cost of living increase.

In our department whoever got a raise got 2% or less. The people who didn't get raises got laid off today.

I think most people who visit this site are actively looking. Nobody here likes what is going on but part of layoffs is to get more to leave on their own. Mgmt is not playing chess. They have no idea what to do. They are just cutting not innovating to grow market share. It is the easiest thing to do until there is no more to easily cut. I fully expect NPS quality and other metrics to move lower but executives likely will not care and are expecting it.

I don't care what anyone says. What you permit, you promote. IF you accept 1% raises, no bonuses or any combination therein, AND stay, then you are basically signaling to management, I accept this, and this is ok. Management is playing chess and most everyone here is playing checkers. I am reading these boards and seeing so many people curl up in the fetal position and close their eyes. Do you really believe you are talented? Do you have something to offer? Then stand up for yourself and so something about it. Waiting till you get laid off to claim severance isn't victory–it means you fell asleep at the wheel on your career and they left you in a ditch that now you and only you will have to dig out of...

@1msg-it was said with the hope that getting out may save you from feeling rejection. If staying is preferable for staff by all means I support that. Heck, s— all you can out of them, of course I support that too. I just don’t want people to expect a “lay-off with severance” when the company has screwed some with “no severance and lay-off” or worse “let’s fire them so we don’t have to pay severance”. Those situations cause such rejection feelings and I want to save people from having to go through that if possible. But if staff want to stay I say awesome, do what works best for you and your loved ones!

Whoever said save yourself the pain and leave now - terrible advice. Stay, but be aware, watch your budget, update your resume, look around for other jobs outside of the company, and let them pay your severance! You don't know who's next. Keep banking that time.

My raise was 1.7% then was gone the next year. When a raise is under 2% they appear to be moving you on your way out the door. Save yourself the pain of lay-off and leave now

I was a “high 4” and was awarded a 1.25% raise but a 15.5% bonus. The raise was insulting but I am thankful about the bonus as I realize some folks got nothing.

We are all in this sh*t show game of Survivor together until our number is called.

Yes could be if your higher paid in your grade or they gave some of your peers 5. Or had to hold back some of the budget. It all comes out of one pool for your merits as a dept but all depts can allocate slightly differently based on how they want with their pool of funds.

I got 1.5 %, with a very small bonus and my MAP score was a high 4.

They give out what the entire pool is for merit increase for usa. It was 2%. What you individually get is based on your map score. Also depts are told to hold back certain amounts of budget for some reason. So a 3 likely got 1 to 1.5%. A 4 will get near 2%. A 5 is supposed to get more than the merit pool. Like 2.5 to 3.5 % depending on your grade and if your low paid or high paid within your grade. If your dept went across the board the same they decided to do that with their merit budget. Hope that helps.

I believe it is company wide my manager told me they only allowed her 2% to work with. While my raise was 3.1% . I feel it was still rather low given that we made how many billions???
