Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Be proactive

I see so many worried people here just waiting to see what's going to happen tomorrow or the next day. Stressing out will ruin your health, people. There is a better and easier solution.

Start looking for a new job. Be proactive about it. It's countless times easier to find a job while you already have one. And at the end of the day, you'll be much happier and calmer if you know you've taken some action.

That's exactly what I am doing now. 13yrs with the company... the last 7yrs with tons of overtime, poor staffing, going around the same mountain multiple times... definition of insanity. It was hard... because I am definitely comfortable... but also MISERABLE in this mess. I don't want to be ungrateful, because overall my bills are paid and it has been a blessing to work from home for several years, BUT putting out that first resume broke the ice. And I put out another and another and another....it's a long process but you have to start somewhere. I encourage any of you to do it! Build your self esteem back up and realize YOU deserve better and there IS better out there for you!!! Be encouraged friends!!

Sometimes not doing a thing will result in the freedom from this place. Don’t assume people have spouses and kids. There are many who are single and only have themselves. Asking someone depressed to “be proactive” isn’t helpful. Instead i’d Suggest keep yourself breathing and alive, go seek counseling..the counselor will help you with a creating a plan for getting out but that’s not important in the short term. You are the important focus for the short term not a job search. Optum always assumes the employee is to blame. Maybe it’s our company that is at fault for not caring for the employees. I hope you reach out for help. There are other places better than here. God Speed

It’s emotionally exhausting to work on your resume and job hunt while you’re already working 50+ hour work weeks! But remember it doesn’t need to happen in a day! Invest 1 hour a week and soon you’ll be ready to go when the right opportunity comes along.

I completely agree, but keep in mind, many employees have been psychologically beaten down, their soles ripped out of them. Especially the ones who have been here a long time. They are left without purpose, except to survive at this point. They know the values preached to them were nothing more than tag lines or bullsh*t. Their so called leaders are nothing more than snake oil salesmen consumed with their own promotion and money grubbing acquity.

My advice to the long timers (and others). If you don't have the energy to find something better for yourself, then look at your spouse or child and do it for them. Find the energy and change your circumstances. Life is more than what we have known.

@130l4mUi-okz YOU nailed it!! That’s EXACTLY how the claims department forces you to feel. I’m in it right now, and it’s brutal health issues because of it. “Some” people can’t just get up and quit they need the position so don’t judge! but, I’m trying to look elsewhere..

"Be Proactive" nailed it. Don't let them control you.

How about making this place a healthy place to work. It’s a large employer. Many staff feel stuck and can’t get energy to apply elsewhere. Panic and stress freezes staff into a frozen position. Just waiting for layoffs is best
