Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Anybody seeing uptic in sales ahead of Christmas?

We are getting slightly increased foot traffic but nothing to write home about. Is anybody else doing better?

I was shocked at how busy our store was, but we had minimal staff.
People were coming in, lines at cash & customer service, but just not
enough bodies to deal with the holiday retail crush.
At one point, we didn't even both answering the endless lines ringing.
So the business was there, but it felt like we were running around with no plan.

I'm amazed that folks still wait in those lines, with online delivery, etc.
But people waited, and it went on all week.

Just to be clear, I was let go because my store was closing and it was unrelated to the Feb 2018 thing. A store closure is a little different from those sudden mass layoffs in that the company relies on the employees (of course) to get the final clearance sale done and get all the merch and fixtures packed up or otherwise disposed of.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if there's a sudden Feb 2020 m—acre once the quarter is up. Again ASMs, SIMs... touch up those resumes if there's more than one of your position in your store. CBDMs, your numbers won't matter even if they're good. They'll pass your job on to some poor part-timer who will be in over their head. That's what happened at my old store.

“ . In Feb 2018 there was no warning given to those about to lose their jobs, but I was lucky enough to receive notice several months in advance”
Any POS manager who told you they didn’t know
LIED to you
I know some who were fired who are still friends with the management staff. I told them they were fools, they got mad and dont talk to ME.
Like I said, FOOLS.

I'm an ex-BN employee of nearly two decades. I watched the company slip and decline over all that time. I would advise anyone (especially ASMs, SIMs, and CBDMs) working there to begin looking for a new job before they kick you to the curb. In Feb 2018 there was no warning given to those about to lose their jobs, but I was lucky enough to receive notice several months in advance and severance pay/benefits when my old store was shuttered post that infamous event. But with the new owners/management, all bets are off.

Given our sales the past few day, if were still open in January, I’ll be SHOCKED!

Was just informed of an inventory reduction in addition to other sales. May be company wide, may also be something else. My guess is there will be a lot of shellshocked people come January.

Our sales are horrible too. Trimmed the schedule yesterday for Thursday and Friday. Skeleton crew.
I’m told other stores are doing the same. Customers are done with us and shopping elsewhere.

One week until Christmas.
Still waiting for the holiday shoppers to descend.
I think they’re descending elsewhere, because they’re NOT HERE.

9 shopping days before Christmas, and we sent 2 people home early last night ! WORST holiday season I’ve ever seen. ( I’ve been in retail since 1987!!)

Who is Durant? I don't know anybody in the company with that name.

Expect a steady flow of blood from the company ... staff ... hours ... management (especially lower level ... and benefits. The Saviour Mr. Durant will unveil his true self after the kindness of his higher discounts for employees and leisure wear and sneakers and cafe prices brought back.

There will be MAJOR cuts in january/Feb. Mostly to hours but expect some closing announcements and possibly layoffs of management. The company is not doing well.

Not much.
A lot of our extra holiday help has been cut to one shift each.
Sales are bad !
WORST December I’ve seen in many years.
We can’t reverse the bad rep we quickly acquired. The bad press, the bad Cust service, the firings.

No surprise. There is ALWAYS more foot traffic at this time of year.
Wait until the wasteland of Jan and Feb.
