Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Life at CTL

I guess I must me missing something or maybe I am hypnotized. I actually like my job and feel very comfortable about the future. I am a National tech working in a busy city at the National CO. I have a pretty decent manager who leaves me alone as long as all work is getting done on time. Wage size very good. So why is everyone else b–ching? By the way I have two other co-workers who feel the same way. I guess if I was a copper technician and I knew my skill was a dying skill with a dying network I guess I would also be angered. I also would probably look for a new skill. I am sure most of them know they have been riding this gravy train for awhile and are mad cause they are getting pushed off. Sorry seniority does not matter here.

We have a couple young guys in National that think everything is ok and they are safe because of what they do. Pretty comical to listen to them talk. Totally oblivious to the situation. Wouldn't be surprised if one of them wrote the prior post.

Was just informed by a little birdy that there will be a surplus announced tomorrow morning. This whole Level 3 merger was probably the worst business decision our board could have ever made. These guys running the show are vultures.

Troll post. No national tech I know (I was one) is happy. Out of a workgroup of 20, so far, 7 have quit in the last 6 months. This is not limited to one particular area either.

LIfe is pretty good where I'm at, but then, I'm not a copper tech working in Consumer Markets, and haven't been for a couple of decades now. I suppose it all comes down to whether or not you saw the hand writing on the wall back when things started changing in the industry. The golden rule of working in any industry is that you have to sell products that people want, and if you are worker bee, you have to work on those products to stay employed.

So then what city are you in where there is all this happiness , butterflies, rainbows , kittens and Unicorns ? I admit it sounds great ! sounds like Denver , where everyone has a hot tub and goes skiing , microbrew pub on every corner and Legal pot heads driving sort of slow . its paradise

Whomever wrote this I presume a manager! There is not one national tech that I know of let alone anyone else testers etc that's happy. The constant harping and browbeating of metrics is ridiculous.

Since June we have had techs , managerial staff, osp staff, and front office leave.
People can not get out fast enough.
We were given early bonus money I presume as a bribe to stay lol
The nice thing is that me and my coworkers are getting interviews.
If any customers or potential customers are reading this you may want to reconsider taking your business elsewhere!!!!

I too was a National tech and then came over to the Local Union side. Highly recommended...you think your comfortable, but that's ignorance. Union is much much better.

"So seniority doesn't matter, history I suppose doesn't either then to you, you would not have a job if not for the copper and historical US West and QWEST "

They DON' have a job ....they just aren't smart enough to figure that out. On top of what was said by someone else If you had it so good, and are so happy why would you be here? Why would you post here? No just a executive somewhere poking the hornets nest for reaction. the writing is on the wall all contractor in the future to continue the bleed

You are golden, you have a bunch of corporate criminals that just took over your company. They are morally bankrupt and will put in place the policy changes that will start to steal from the customers and blame it on the systems in place. Then they will move their crystal palace to Miami and control it all from the top floor hidden from all. Your wages will be siphoned in the name of medical insurance until you are living paycheck to paycheck. It starts out good and you are proud of where you work for a while. We have been there done that genius. They know how to play people for s—ers, customers and employees alike and greed is what drives them.

Troll bait, do not respond to this. No one satisfied with his/hers own job would even have the need to visit a layoff forum, not to mention making a derogatory comment about someone else’s skills.

So seniority doesn't matter, history I suppose doesn't either then to you, you would not have a job if not for the copper and historical US West and QWEST building the infrastructure your National Fiber is connected to. The false billing going on right now that the State of Washington just won that is also going to be a Nationwide suit as well is the type of decisions that Nacchio, Mueller, Notebart, Post and now Story have been putting on the backs of the Local and the RBOC portion of this company the whole time I have been here. Asking the Local to not take raises, reduce benefits and then start cutting people left and right yet maintaining the Bonuses and Stock Options and practices over and over again.

Local centers have been carrying the National side forever, they have a mentality that everyone is beneath them yet still get bailed out again and again by the men and women that are in the locals.

The Local side is the grease, wrench turners, and functional can do aspect of the company, not because they are better, but because they have had to be, the buck being passed at every turn down a level can't go no further and the Local personnel have to figure out what's wrong, how to fix it and implement it every time.

Just be careful what you wish for, you don't know what your missing till it is gone, Kind of like that spouse or significant other that may have been a bit boring but never caused a lot of drama and took care of you and didn't ask for the moon in return.

You may get a trophy wife so to speak but damn that maintenance and ability to keep her happy is another full time job.
