The HUGE Success of Baby Yoda - JOKE

Self-aggrandising Mattel Junior Execs were patting themselves on the back this week on Linked In.

This post was the the best:

"Our team works at the intersection of pop culture and great IP brands. This week we were fortunate to be in the center of it all.

It was an incredible team effort to deliver The Child, Amazon's #1 plush item, with unprecedented global fan love. Thank you #disney and #lucasfilm"

This means NOTHING? Why. This item is shipping on May 25th 2020.

Wait what? You mean before Christmas 2019 right? to capitalise on the buzz and hype? NOPE

IN 5 MONTHS TIME! That really shows how nimble Mattel is

So PJ. Before you start your victory lap, realise there is 5 months for people to cancel those preorders.

Clearly you haven't seen any of the recent NPD charts for Nov Dec, MGA is the one worthy of envy, 8 out of the top 10 best selling toys this year are MGA SKUs.

OK Boomer.
You know of course that this whole post is BS and you have no clue what you are talking about.
Disney told no one about the character before the show aired , then Mattel got on it and made a product. Nice work Mattel team.

The initial lack of Baby Yoda merch stemmed from “The Mandalorian” creator Jon Favreau’s desire to keep the element of surprise about the character for the series’ debut, when The Child appears at the end of the premiere episode. Disney complied with his request to hold off producing merchandise until after the live-action Star Wars series premiered.
Poor Mattel, this is like catching lighting in a bottle only to learn that you can't actually sell any of it until six months after demand and interest in lighting had peaked.

It's surprising that a team who lives on the bleed edge of pop culture didn't make sure the launch of their product corresponded with the release of they TV show, that's like Movie and TV show merch 101, even if your dealing with tightly kept secret like ”the child" 🙄 consumers should be able to buy they toy the day after the show premiers, not six months later. This seems more like a desperate attempt to remind investors that Mattel actually has this license next year because I think everyone assumed it would be Hasbro making these Mandalorian toys.
