Thread regarding Morgan Stanley layoffs

It’s Happening?

IT'S HAPPENING. Layoffs have already started, just note some of the MDs are suddenly are not around even though they might still be /n (it is our directory service, for the outsiders).
This is a big one and it'll hit across the board, comments are it might be one of the biggest since 2008.
Dates will depend on department, starts next Tuesday Dec 10th, on a office near you. Start packing your sh–.

I’ve stumbled upon this post on another thread ( OP is @128shl3C-dyko ). Has anyone heard anything? Is December 10th really the date or is this guy just trolling the forum?

It’s real. MDs were cut last week. But it’s happening mostly in New York and London. Baltimore, Tokyo, Shanghai, Montreal and Budapest might have a few people axed, but it would be low the performers.

year after year after year... you can imagine what it does to the healthy career building culture and atmosphere in the firm: to secure your job as a manager you need to work around the clock acting as you were absolutely irreplaceable manager, without you the sh.. would fall apart.
You have to come up with something short-term and flashy tactical bulls..t every year and pressure your staff to support you on your annual nonsense initiative, while they need to do their dayjobs too. Those who were brought in from the managers' previous place to support him/her or don't have real hands-on work, would be able to help with the annual pet-project and get a chance to be promoted the following year. Those who keep the lights on and covering the manager's back, usually don't have the time for the tactical stuff - and never get promoted. Ultimately they leave or end up on low visibility, low impact satellite-roles for a year. This, and being irrelevant from tactical projects perspective leads to lower rankings, so getting nicely set up for the pink-slips for the next round... [ Morgan Stanley 2019 (c) ]

MDs have been dropping like flies. Next week the lower ranks. It's rediculous. Not even necessary...

40+ MD's axed last Wed in NY hitting Tech. Many more next week for ED/VP/Associates, etc. This will be worse than 2008 in many aspects.
