Thread regarding Optum layoffs

SITTING DUCKS

I am on nurse line, and it hasnt happened yet, but I feel many nurse line nurses will be laid off soon. Reading the comments on here about UHG loosing accounts and already knowing many accounts are not buying up nurse line for next year is the writing on the wall for me. When our manager is asked the question "how many accounts are purchasing nurse line next year" she says that number is not known yet. I dont see how this number is not known yet; I am guessing open enrollment for just about all accounts is over correct? This sounds to me they do know and they do not want to share this info because we will put 2 & 2 together and jump ship. Anyone know anything about the future of nurse line?

Empire does not outsource anything. If offshore is handling Empire please contact NYSHIP directly.

In the majority of NL calls, the patient is directed to go in to be seen. UHC will be getting rid of NL and any remaining positions will ultimately be outsourced to India. I do not have timeline.

There are 2 NY accounts that I don’t see getting rid of 24 hour NL anytime soon. Empire and independent health. I do believe things are changing but I don’t think NL is going away completely. Maybe I’m
Naive

I will jump on meeting calls my manger has from now on. I’ll mute myself don’t worry. But I at least don’t want to be the last to hear stuff. Even if the communication is poor to us front staff perhaps skipping work and jumping on these meetings will be better use of my time than working!! If I do poorly my manager does poorly. Yep. She needs to pay for letting my friend go. Even if she didn’t get final say she’s still a b@#$&. I don’t care if I get let go now! I just don’t care..but I do want to be in the know especially if it gets me outta doing work anymore and if it helps others! Meetings all day for me now! LOL stay tuned

I'm not sure how it can be considered a secret that NL is going away when it was published on Connect To Market months ago and the information is still out on that site. It was also discussed in national conference calls for both UHC and Optum account management and operations teams, among others.

During office hours, the nurse advocates will do basic triage and refer members to Teledoc for a virtual visit if the disposition is urgent care or see a doctor. After hours the member will be routed to Teledoc.

I work on nurse line and I can tell you that we have not been informed of any of this information. As a matter of fact I was recently told that nurse line isn’t going anywhere. That it may change, but not going anywhere anytime soon. But then they got rid of 5 NL managers. They aren’t honest at all.

I am not surprised this is a secret. UHG is good at keeping secrets. They want to keep nurse line nurses around as long as they can until this plan year ends so they can fulfill their free nurse line promise to current accounts. I can say nurseline has not been informed of advocate nurses transitioning into this new role, nor have they told us there is an option to work as nurse advocates or apply to other areas. That info was bs. They had to tell you that to manipulate you into believing they legitimately care about being transparent with you and that they care about your career. We keep hearing from our manager that it is business as usual. However, we received an email about reductions needing to be made and team changes that will be coming soon and then quickly the email was gone. When manager was asked what happened to the email, she told us she wasnt allowed to share the info yet and she had to delete the email. I am not naive; it is not business as usual. One of the supervisors for nurse line got the ax this month and I am anticipating our team will be next.

Any nurse advocates not already triage trained are being trained. They are being licensed in additional states to take all the calls. We were told many many months back that nurse line was not going to be 24 hours anymore, and then we were told we were going to handle all those calls, that the current nurse line nurses would have to find new positions or they could apply to be nurse advocates. This has not been a secret on our end, but I’m disappointed to see no one told nurse line. I’m really sorry and I don’t want to tell you info and then have it not be true. But it seems everyone on this thread has heard the same info. I would start looking for a new position now.

Any nurse advocates on here who have been recently training for triage process? If so, what information have you been told regarding when you will be taking triage/health education calls? Thank you for any information you have. This site is helpful for people who seriously need to anticipate a layoff and plan ahead.

There currently are nurses that answer benefit related questions and do NOT perform triage. I imagine these nurses are the nurses that have been learning triage process for the past few weeks and will be taking over nurse line in near future.

Advocates are Non clinical so they are not triaging but referring to virtual visits instead of transfer to NL.

This is accurate. UHC is no longer including Nurseline as part of the insurance benefits. Accounts have to buy up if they want it. And nurseline as it is known today is going away. It is just unclear what the new model will be to us all.

Nurse line contracts end at the end of the year. Advocates ARE becoming nurseline- training started several weeks ago. I am sorry but it might be best to start looking for other opportunities.

I heard a while back they were phasing it out and the nurse advocates were taking the NL calls. I have no authority on that. It's just something I heard in passing.
