Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Laid off today...

I was just laid off at 8 a.m. today - I'm a supervisor in my department.

Not sure about the severance package but was told I would receive information on it.

I'm scheduled to get married on 1-4-20 and been with the company for 9 years.

This showed me this company really doesn't care about their employees and looking forward to what God has in store for me 🙏

You’ll be fine. Thank you for being a great supervisor and leader to our team. We will all miss you every day. But I have a feeling you’ll find something way better than the company that treats people this way.

Yes and I as Gen X have been waiting on you to be kicked out and retire so we can have your positions and hire thentruly awesome millennials that have sharp brains and innovative skills. They are smart workers and want work/life balance. I’m with them! So i’m Just patiently waiting to either take your job or have them realize we are cheaper than boomers and you’ll be out the door if the company doesn’t self implode first with boomer top heavy population here. Let’s see which generation wins. I believe it will be the millennials and gen x! We as gen ex are small and many of us depressed yes but millennials are doing great from what I can tell. Gen x is standing on their own never got support of anybody but we aright! If you as a boomer hate millennials maybe that means you hate your kids. Just go to therapy and get help and you’ll see life can get better! Be nice boomers, do mentoring if you wish to share with others, or put positive into the world. You create the world you live in!

No guarantees at all in life. Cover yourself. Anything else may disappoint you. I too feel sorry for Gen X and millennial who dont understand processes. It appears they operate like what I call" push button people". Who want immediate gratification and are sometimes less industrious in seeking it. who dont see the big picture, just what is presented in front of them, but not behind the scenes. Easily stressed and having difficulty processing . Who dont understand applied intellectual skills in problem solving. Evidenced by self harming behaviors on so many levels. That is the future and their world. This hopefully will wake up some of us. Overall we are in trouble if we don't get WOKE and think people, THINK!!!

How can a company that is supposed to promote health and well-being treat their staff this way? And right at Christmas. I am so afraid I will be part of this lay off in the next round and I haven’t been with them long enough to get a decent severance.

These lay offs have effected basically all of leadership from my team in M&R for Optum. Everyone, but one supervisor was let go.....all of the team leads and higher were wiped out, all of the social workers were let go including the manager. I’m a CAC for M&R so I’m safe for now as they said in the meeting after the mass lay-off meetings. This is so unfortunate for all of those people that were effected, I hate that this happened ESPECIALLY during the holidays and I hope everyone is able to find something new very soon. I’m honestly thinking about looking around for new positions just so I can have a backup.

The baffling thing is they usually let the people go that are good at their job and we are left with the id–ts who know nothing (at least in legal).

Is anyone familiar with this: The U.S. Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (“WARN Act”) requires employers with 100 or more employees to give at least 60 days’ notice before a “plant closing” or “mass layoff” to employees affected by the action. Part-time employees who work less than 20 hours per week and employees who work fewer than 6 of the 12 months preceding the date when notice would be required do not count toward the 100 employee threshold.

Looking at other posts, some are saying there is some validity to this for those laid off as well as the mentioning the importance of not signing a severance until you discuss or explore this particular option for yourself. According to the Federal Labor Union, they are required to give 60 day’s notice with alternative placement options. If not, we can sue for up to 3 months full pay with interests.

Any insight would be great.

Lots of layoffs with SOutheast Optum BH as well today. Feel so badly for those who were let go. We were already understaffed. Have no idea how we are going to be able to get anything done. Just awful.

I was laid off as well in the BS meeting today, funny how on last account he said we were planning on doubling in size, but as of today most of our department was let go, I hope they sink like the titanic.

I was in the meeting with Ambrose today as well it’s complete bull sh–! They pretended as if it were a training “BH UPDATE” and let all of us go it’s ridiculous they don’t give a damn at all!

Spoke with a friend who was called into the office in Houston for a “training” and was let go with a room full of other employees instead of being trained. Wow. How low is that?! They were also told 12/13/19 last day and 1/2/20 last paid day as well as severance and other fluff to be sent soon. Happy Holidays, right??

I was laid off 8am today. My manager immediately started off with this is difficult and I knew I was being laid off because a few of my former co-workers were laid off on November. I’ve been with the company almost 19 years. My last day is A few weeks out but my access was immediately cut.
It was a huge shock to say the least but farewell UHG! I’ll be alright and bounce back. To all that are going through this the best to you.

I was let go as well this morning and I WAH After Hours Care Advocate in Houston. My supervisor called me right after my shift ended this AM and informed me. I am also pregnant and due in February. I was told I would be mailed info on severance and other details. I am told I no longer have to work after 12/13/19 but will be paid thru 1/2/20. I am eager to sign in to jabber and see who else has been let go. Thank God for His grace and provision despite the scum up top.

I was laid off today as well. There were about 40 behavioral health clinicians that were in the mandatory meeting I was in where peter Ambrose read off a script that we were all being terminated. I’m a facility based care advocate. Half of my team got let go (7 of us). He said we would get an email at 3pm outlining our severance. Got nothing.

Meanwhile the CEO still makes 70K/DAILY. Yes daily. Unbelievable but true: “ UnitedHealth Group Inc. CEO David Wichmann was paid $18.1 million in 2018, a slight increase from his pay the year before“ (google search)

Today was an awful day. I'm safe "for now" as the VP told us glibly in the survivors meeting. Focus on your wedding and the upcoming joy and forget about this place for a while.

What other departments have let people go? They've had many rounds this year of layoffs already.

I am a RN in CCR. Safe this round but they cut all of our LPNs (4) today. I should not be shocked but really I cannot wrap my head around losing staff when they mandate overtime each week. Merry Christmas, am I right?!

I’m hearing upwards of 1200-1400 people total laid off across the entire UHG enterprise today. It appears in many cases that I am familiar with they went after seniority and high wage earners.

I survived today but lost a few good coworkers. I know it’s just a matter of time before it’s my turn. Time to start my LinkedIn search I guess.

Me too. This has kind of been hovering in the air for a while. The corporate management had been going through a lot of changes.
Honestly, the company is a mess, organizationally.

I was with AT&T for 10 yrs, got married, went to Maui for our honeymoon. Had to call in from Maui to find out if I was laid off which turns out I was. But you know what? It was the best thing ever. Keep your head up, and remember it's all about the journey! Best wishes to you!

Laid off last ear. I was with them almost 20 years and they basically “found a bogus reason” to get rid of me. I was near top of pay scale and benefits including bonuses each quarter for production and quality so I guess I had to go. I was costing them too much money.
