Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Is this ever going to stop?

Why dont they have one big layoff and get over with this. I am sick and tired of cuts every month or two - it's k–ling morale.

I believe they don’t layoff more at a time than they do is because of the WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act. It requires employers to give those employees 60 days notice of being laid off if the location from which they’re being relived has a certain percentage of personnel. Anything below that doesn’t require them to do anything more.

They don't do it all at once or in the same area/town because they have to publish it to community if they do.

In a townhall not too long ago, they said we wouldn’t be laying off in Behavioral because we needed even more case managers. Guess that was not true.

Meeting with VP was demoralizing...he said for now, some can stay hired. But more to come, awful. Nobody on my team can focus with this occurring and one co worker was laid off in group WebEx.

they would get less negative feedback if they asked for volunteers. I know i'm not the only one that would sign up. that and quit with the townhalls like today where literally the whole mtg was execs talking about AZ weather and golf. they also showed a slide with promos for emps (90% which went to offshore emps) and 1 second spent on mention of reorgs and layoffs.

True, there are no guarantees. If you feel your at risk or do not want to be a part of a company who is having issues and having to make layoffs and benefit cuts, it is best to look for a job while you have a job. You likely will better your financial position and you can choose an employer who at least at face value may offer more to employees than UHG. Also you can leave the sector issues that Healthcare Insurers are facing behind you. The private healthcare insurance area is probably one of the least stable areas right now to be working in due to the political environment.

UHC is no different from any other employer at the end of the day it’s about bottom-line (cash). I️ have been employed with UHC for 14 years and have gone through several rounds of layoffs however blessed to remain employed through them all.

In short, what’s for you is for you jumping to another employer does not guarantee you’re safe from being cut.

It's easier to hide smaller layoffs over time to both the news and investors. A big layoff will pummel investor confidence at least short term and make uhg look bad in eyes of the public. Healthy companies without sector headwinds do not do that. See Halliburton for a company that had no choice but to announce large layoffs uhg is not there yet. As soon as a public option becomes a reality then you will see it.

Unfortunately uhc will never do one huge layoff. It would attract too much attention. Make no mistake, uhc pays a lot of lawyers and think tank folks to figure out how to screw employees and get away with it. Uhc is just all about profits, paying medical claims is just a side business.
