Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Bench management still in place?

Is Bench Management still in place in Services (GBS, GTS)? I remember this started in summer ‘18.
Landed on the bench for the first time in 4 years. Just wondering how long I have.

@1hgr - "Bench" is a consulting term. It means that are not deployed on a project, kind of waiting on a bench to enter a game... While on a bench you collect salary even though you are not billable to a client. Typically people do internal stuff, proposals, etc. while on the bench.

Back in 2001, recession times, I was on the bench for over 4 months and yet they kept me...

I guess times have changed (I left IBM a few years back)...

When you hit 30 days of Productive Utilization less than 75%, you get PIP'ed.

Then, I believe, you have 60 days in which to get booked on something and bring your number up above 75%.

Bench is huge and sustained where I’m sitting, NA GBS CAI. Last year I was the only person on my 16-person team who was billable but those people all still have jobs so who knows. Only heard about bench management via Fishbowl about 2 years ago but never knew anyone affected by it.

30 days until PIP. Then 30 days until termination.
