My local chairman doesnt know the very basics of the agreement or the process to conduct Union business. Absolutely any matters that I would have expected assistance from the Union as a dues paying member in good standing help was ultimately solved or not solved by myself. So all that being said.

A lot of times those LC jobs go to whoever will take them. I've done four terms now, I do whatever I can but I will defend some other LCs by saying this, when you read many of these agreements, especially the more recent interdivisionals, we have no teeth. On the other hand, yes, there are far too many union officers who are just there for the title, vacation, and layoff privileges.
Like was stated above, our predecessors thought they could go head to head with actual lawyers, and starting mainly with the 85 Halloween agreement the Carriers started planting seeds to use 20-25 years later, and our group is paying for that because those guys got "protected" status.
I'm also in the group that may be safe, may be not, but I'm looking at trucking most likely to replace this job.
Union reps are voted in. If folks weren’t scared of losing their jobs there wouldn’t be all these posts complains about their unions.
Every terminal is manned by uneducated, ignorant, lazy union reps just trying to keep their jobs and not rock the boat. #scared
Whoever said your LC was a lawyer with trial experience? If you are "smarter" , "more knowledgeable " then you do the job of trying to defend the ungrateful
My union reps know their stuff but at the end of the day they are high school educated guys vs big buisness lawyers.
You describe the whole system
