Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Anybody else feels like they are being underpaid by IBM?

I'm talking specifically about software engineers.

Glassdoor list $146k for RTP. Seems low though.

What does a band 9 pay look like in RTP, NC?

Also in Lab Services in the US, and also largely underpaid. I do confirm that bonuses are gone. GDP is cut in half year after year and has reached a point to where the amount paid is insignificant.

I am also looking for better pasture.

GBS SAP vs Accenture SAP group, consulting, US, West - you are getting paid about 10 to 15 percent less - total comp (Source: Own Experience, was with IBM now with Accenture)

GTS innovation centers are considered "temp" IBM locations so they offer less salary and benefits.
3% 401k match, no referral bonuses, no tuition reimbursement ect.
Hence why they chose some real nice locations to setup show eh? NOT

Most of my peers made less than 50% of what I was being paid and I wasn't being paid as much as my peers in other companies (I was band 9) - plus other company comp plans were significantly better. When IBM acquired a company, they dissolved some of the sales force into my team, and the rep working with me was making 50% more than I was and not selling anything! And he left of his own accord because he could make more elsewhere!
I think a lot of people traded high salaries for a stable job, but that ship sailed a long time ago!

IBM has always been noted for paying in the middle to lower middle of the pack. They used to say their benefits made up for the difference. Now that IBM has leveled their benefits to compare to everyone else, you get what you pay for. When I departed IBM, I had 6 offers in hand. All of them paid significantly more. (30-50%). It was quite an eye opener for me.

It’s not just software engineers. GBS pay is so sub par, we have a huge brain drain and the only ones who stay can’t get a job anywhere else, hence why delivery is so poor. Since the mid-2010s, everyone leaves within 2 years, maybe 5 years max because IBM can be good about overseas assignments or flexible work arrangements. But as soon as people can get out, they do and the only ones who stay are the truly desperate. They are paying new hires very well now because word is spreading about how bad IBM is on college campuses. But after 1 year of no pay rises or promotions, when their friends at Big 4 & Accenture all get them, they all leave. Had this happen to 4 mentees all within the past year!

IBM is renowned for not paying market rates, a fact I saw tangibly demonstrated when our company were assimilated a few years ago. It was noticeable when salaries were discussed, that the "heritage" IBMers were on significantly less money than us. I am talking specifically about the UK band 6, 7 and 8 levels primarily.

I am in US Lab Services, band 9, underpaid by 20K on the salary. I am not even talking about bonus since they are non-existent these days.

Will be departing (resigning) shortly for a better place.
