Why are there still locations where there are completely separate Level 3 offices, employees and management tiers? Las Vegas for one still has former Level 3 technicians that report separately, and are not represented by the union, therefore would not be included in seniority for layoffs etc.? There job titles should have been restructured, but have not. The records of equipment and customers are separate. They have a separate office with engineers not in the same management tier, which it seemingly would be more cost efficient to combine them and reduce management and executive costs.

I agree L3 techs are reluctantly teaching legacy CTL techs processes and systems. Not all are as forthcoming with info as others. Many National techs still have no access to many locations and require a L3 tech to show up to get them in. Many CTL techs with no clearance to get on Govt jobs.
BUT, i definately agree with the guy who says L3 still operates as a separate company and will re-emerge again once they strip what they Want out of CTL, and leave the shell of CTL it's own entity again. The Ethernet project going on across the country is a prime example.
As far as trucks still carrying L3 logos, we haven't seen one in our area for at least six months. One of the VPs almost had a stroke when he was told there was one running around and it got stripped clean right away. Many L3 vehicles were not logo'ed because of govt accounts anyway.
I take exception to this remark " Nope. It's been fLVLT techs teaching CTL/Qwest techs how to use the fWilTel/fLVLT/fTW/fGC workflow systems and how to do the work that CTL National traditionally contracted out to a vendor. Nice try tho. " although there is some cross training and a learning curve on both sides . I know the lead teach from LEGACY CENTURYLINK NATIONAL that can run ciercles around every Level3 tech and his director but that is an exception because he is a genius . The LEGACY Level3 tech right under him is no slouch either but this one area is probably the exception like said , aslo in a few other areas I know personally the LEGACY CENTURYLINK NATIONAL techs have been around for a long time and are very sharp. Learning a new Clarify system or a different type of install is what they have been doing for years. These guys volunteered to do the work the contractors were doing years ago.
"Because it is all a scam."
Not a scam, but I do believe at some point we will split and local will keep the CenturyLink name and national/fLVLT will operate under a new(or not so new) name.
"Call test and turnup for fiber and see how they answer the phone. The don't say Centurylink, that's for sure."
This is cr@p. They answer as CenturyLink.
"And I live being referred to as "You guys" "
In my world, going both(all?) ways, we use 'you guys' when referring to the respective legacy companies and their collective bullsh!t. Maybe not correct, but we all know what we mean. And I'm a red tech falling under green leadership that pushes the 'one company' culture pretty hard, but sometimes 'us' and 'them' is easier and more efficient.
"Our SRO loses his mind every time he sees a L3 truck with the old logo"
I have a hard time believing there are any fLVLT branded trucks still on the roll 2+ years in. My truck was re-branded 7 days after close and I'm in a very much after-thought of market. Building signage tho, that's a whole different sh!t show.
"in reality it’s been former Centurylink doing the bulk of the work and training our FLVL3 counterparts to take our jobs."
Nope. It's been fLVLT techs teaching CTL/Qwest techs how to use the fWilTel/fLVLT/fTW/fGC workflow systems and how to do the work that CTL National traditionally contracted out to a vendor. Nice try tho.
Because it is all a scam. Level 3 still operates as an independent company and when they strip all they want outnof CTL they will once again operate as Level 3 after they announce splitting the companies into CTL a residential company and Level 3 a fiber, govt and business company...just like they were before. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Our SRO loses his mind every time he sees a L3 truck with the old logo. But he doesn't say a word to his boss (former L3 of course) for fear of getting the smackdown laid on him.
Don't belive me? Call test and turnup for fiber and see how they answer the phone. The don't say Centurylink, that's for sure. And I live being referred to as "You guys" meaning Centurylink.
National does not fall under the union. The union would have to approach national techs to join or vis versa. It’s not an automatic thing. In my area we have no local. So no union. Plus different areas have different unions.
there’s been no true integration because the intent is not and has never been full integration. These past few years there’s been talk of cross-training and integration but in reality it’s been former Centurylink doing the bulk of the work and training our FLVL3 counterparts to take our jobs.
quit talking sense ! that would mean we will have to create a budget, integration costas, timeline , get approval from HR and a senior executive planning committee , with new job titles , an outside consultant etc. !!! there is no time for this never mind.
