Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

No wonder sales are down

Why are they hiring people who have read two books total in their lives??? This has been going on for several years now... How do they expect people like that to be able to give recommendations, answer any of the customers' questions, and ultimately sell any books?

This place has turned into a joke thanks to that...

The company just wants cheap cannon fodder to sell memberships. In recent years, I can't tell you how many brand new fresh bright-eyed employees come in all happy and sh– to be working there, and then they get stuck at the cashwrap expected to sell 10 memberships per shift, and then they quickly get jaded and bail. More than a few just end up no-showing, never to be seen again. Rinse and repeat with replacement new hires.

Glad I don't work there anymore.

It’s obvious this company just wanted to make it through Christmas. The same old c-ap is going on now, as with the old regime. When I start back to school this will not be my part-time job anymore.
And I’ll laugh my butt off when they close.

Very true !
Once an industry leader. THE place to work. Now, an industry joke and their customer base has remained the same as the Cust service has sharply declined. So, they do what we’ll informed consumers do. They go ELSEWHERE. I don’t patronize stores that give me POOR SERVICE. Why would they remain loyal to a company that doesn’t cater to their needs and has the history ( now) of treating their employees poorly?
