What would happen if an employee offered to get laid off? I dont understand why they dont have sign ups for lay offs.

Because then they would have to actually acknowledge mass layoffs are happening and god forbid investors found out and stock prices dipped as a result.
They are intentionally keeping the layoffs as quiet as possible to keep it out of the news.
The severance is minuscule and requires you to sign a legal release and it may not even be worth it to sign the severance agreement. However, if you quit you won't get unemployment which can be a lifesaver for some.
When they offered voluntary separation a couple years ago they got so many people clamoring for it that they had more people that wanted it than spots available. People really want out of this toxic place.
Why volunteer? They are not offering packages like oil and gas companies or even major chemical companies. They get awesome incentives to retire. Uhg is as stingy as it comes for a supposed fortune 5 or Dow 30. Our benefits are laughable against other industries.
No, because you can quit at anytime and spare them to severance. If you want to volunteer for a layoff, do yourself a favor and leave.
Because all the high performers would leave.
