Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Moving "high value" Ethernet customers

Any national techs out there run into the contractors installing the new bays of equipment in their CO so Level 3 can move the high value customers onto their own equipment and off the CTL equipment?

Word is it was supposed to be complete by end of 2019 but now end of first quarter 2020. There are two interesting parts to this. First, we are all supposed to be one company now called Centurylink. Wrong. How many of you keep seeing Level 3 communications on your orders? Yessir, operating inside CTL still as their own company. With a plan.

Next, why would L3 be installing duplicate equipment and moving only the high revenue customers. Oh and with it's own dedicate power. Hmm. Not real hard to figure this one out either. It's only a matter of time until the only thing left is fiber being maintained by contractors.

Has anyone noticed how many national techs are leaving? They know the deal even though they are being told, oh don't worry everything will be ok, as their coworkers quit one by one. Nobody realizes except mgmt how many techs have left of their own accord.

It would be interesting to see a poll of all areas exactly how many national techs have left in each area, so we as a whole across the country could see just how bad it really is.

Level 3 did the same thing with Witel , Broadwing but the Buildings are still there and there is still equipment inside in some areas and some Fiber optic circuits . I remember when they bought out smaller regional networks and completely dismantled the buildings. In some former Global crossing rooms of CenturyLink the equipment is still there , the BDFDBs are off. Then that fiber is used for something else . So whats the point of rolling off of CenturyLink long Haul to Level3 Longhaul ? is for tax and revenue purposes ? is it to free up more fiber ?. By early 2020, the company wants to have over 90% of customers on 40 megabits per second or higher, over 70% on 100 megabits or more, and over 20% passed with a full gigabit of speed. There are some part of the Legacy CenturyLink longhaul that are all out of dark fiber . is there some kind of Master plan for reorganizing bandwidth ?to achieve these goals to be ready for 5G LTE ? inquiring minds need to know ...

It’s here, all over but the crying.

We still get orders that say tw telecom and global crossing. It’s because of the different color networks. You should know this. They aren’t going to get everything listed as ctl. They keep saying we are working on migrating the systems. It’s laughable.

The few that are still here that quietly helped build the red know how it is built. The green they don't care about because it will be sold off as part of the Centurylink sell off.
The part I find Interesting is that Level 3 is using all contractors on the build out and throws in the offices and CTLs own CO techs have no clue what is being done under their noses other than they got orders mid summer to clear bay space for so many rack units and make sure there is additional 60 amps of power available for a Level 3 "fiber project" they are working on.

If not for some angry contractors telling what is going on, nobody would be any the wiser until all of a sudden there are just a few patches to the green ntwk and the new equipment is all heavily laden.

They have spent a ton of money upgrading the 9500 ring in the hubs. The writing is on the wall.

Yes I see it everyday. They want to migrate all the green network to the red. Problem is the green is a new metro ring built a few years ago, Red is a patched together network that nobody really knows how it comes and goes from one site to another. And gets damaged monthly due to having no records for it. Only a matter of time before green is dead.

We see it first hand. If they can bankrupt some of the spin off companies Level 3 could care less. We never really merged if you look at the paychecks we receive. I don't think Level 3 is smart enouph to bankrupt some of the firms without going bankrupt themselves.
