Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Have No Fear

For all of those like me who have been given their notice, you can relax. The economy is the best it has been in over 50 years. There are presently over 7 million unfilled jobs in the US, that is more than the population of Indiana with over 500,000 more on the way with the signing of the USMCA. If we had to get laid off, this is the best time for it to happen. Xerox is not the only company out there. We all have a lot of experience that is valuable in the open market, just don't sell yourself short. Xerox may not appreciate it but it is us who have held Xerox together for all of these years. Good Luck and Merry Christmas Everyone!

The reality of today’s economy in the US is that many low wage jobs are unfilled. But Xerox people have enjoyed good wages and comparable jobs don’t exist. The media sound bites don’t reflect the labor statistics that paint a different picture. Still, everyone should be looking because something is better than nothing, which is where Xerox is headed.

I’m sorry to hear you didn’t find at least a comparable job. I’m in my late fifties & am making more than I was at Xerox with decent benefits. I am down to 4 weeks of vacation but I didn’t really expect to get 6. Keep looking, maybe there’s something better out there for you.

I hope that for everone else, your words prove to be true. This was not the case for me. Having worked over 3 decades for Xerox, I was nearing retirement age.

No one wanted me and all I would bring to the table. I wound up taking a c-appy job, making 40% of what I had been making. The horrendous health plan offered ( medical only) was so astronomical, I had to keep open market plan which is horrible as well, but cheaper.

Hopefully, everyone else is younger and finds the perfect job.

And what about everyone in X outside the US in the real world? That’s been the problem with this company, no clue of the outside world and how it really works!

I’m sure you most of you on here think that X only just sell printers as well....

Low unemployment and lots of unfilled jobs does not necessarily translate into living wages or health benefits. There are jobs though. If you look young or are good at sales, you'll be okay.

The trick is finding a company that's willing to pay for your experience, or at least something close. I've been looking even before given formal notice. Depends on your skills and likely your geographic location. NYS and some other Xerox locations are not best $ or job wise, but there are worse locations!

Still I march on. LOL- love when i see job ads for laundry list of skills/experience and then state 'recent grad' or similar verbiage which is code for low pay and/or not someone within 5-10 years of potential retirement (maybe some ageism?)

Just dust yourself off and move forward folks– whatever way you can!
