If the unions don’t protect the work, the railroad will get someone that will. Then you can whine about that.

And what union is going to fight being forced on your off days. There is too many clicks. We just need to get rid of the union period. Hopefully this next contract we can pull out of the union.

@1iww is correct. Also, if your job is bulletined on one shift they can’t force you to another shift for the same reasons.

By law the Union Pacific cannot force you to come in on your rest days after fulfilling your 40 hr work week, I don’t care what service unit you work at , the Union Pacific is not above the law, and don’t ever, ever let your local chairman or any management phuuck tell you differently , just because some phuck tard on first shift has more seniority then you And wants the holiday off and is trying to force you to work your rest days then you need To bring in the national representative from your Union to investigate this intimidation tatic

If you don’t feel comfortable doing it through your locals you can do it with the union president.

The mechanical union absolutely s—s!! We would be better off getting rid of the union all together. All the union does is create clicks especially in NLR AR.

What is the process for filing a grievance against the union. There is also a lot of people who have issues with how vacation is handled by our unions. Would the upper union reps have to respond to how North Platte is handling vacation and forcing on your weekend.

If they do file a grievance against your union because that’s against the contract.

They do it every year in North Platte the unions want it that way.

I echo the other person's statement, how can they force you to work rest days? 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, two rest days. If a holiday falls on said rest days, dont work then.

@jyv

They will have to hire mechanical managers that know what they are looking at then. I haven’t seen one who would know if a locomotive was fixed correctly or not

Makes me laugh when you say they will keep a manager on to make sure contractors comply with FRA standards. What makes you think they want them to comply, they don’t even want U.P. employees to comply. Such bull!

The layoffs for the mechanical department won't stop until the department is eliminated entirely, except for a few managers and "key personnel". It will become a business function that will be contracted out entirely to a third party, with a UP mechanical manager checking the work of the contractors to ensure compliance with FRA standards.

A similar trend was already well under way in the engineering department when I left, with contractors doing everything from delivering ballast, clearing debris, steel work, and almost everything else except for management and inspections.

Nlr is like a ghost town. We use to have 30 plus locos a day now we hardly have 10 a day. Putting broke locos into storage. Eventually all these locos will be broke and then what will vena, givens and smith do. Overtime will not fix your mess!!!!

I’ve never seen so many stored units
If the company is not careful -with the amount layoffs - there will be no crafts left to fix their broke locos .... calling these folks back they will find most of the talent have gone to better jobs And will not return
Surly the memory of the company is short,
It was not to long ago when they couldn’t get experience machinists and Electricains
To work here- paying sign on bonuses that reach over 5,000
Well a working mans memory isn’t weak and he will not be put in a bad situation again .

I just don’t see how they could destroy more workers lives. Right now North Platte is calling overtime every day.
