So... This quarter target posted record revenue. If you were to believe EL he would tell you that all his problems have to do with Amazon and maybe Walmart... But yet Target is posting records. Target does not have an online presence much stronger than Sears, nor is it very price competitive with Walmart so that cannot really be it.
News for eddie, I think it has to do with shopping experience, product selection and overall just keeping up with retail trends. When I was a kid my grandma used to buy me stuff from the sears catalog, clothes mainly. Unfortunately back in the 80s I only wore those clothes when my grandma was around, it was quite embarrassing if I had to wear them to school. Fast forward 30 years and the last time I was in sears I had nostalgic memories of the stuff my grandma used to buy... But not because it was sears but because the shelves were still stocked with the same fashions!! Now they say all good trends come back in style.. but Im thinking they never went out of style in sears. So, im not shopping there and my grandma is dead so there went one of sears' last customers.
And then well there is the fact that the stores themselves are mostly dark and dank and for the most part probably have the same layout and furniture as they did in the 80s.
Poor sears, a hundred years of great history weighing it down like a boat anchor.
By the way.. calling your customers "members" with that silly SYW program is almost insulting to your customers. This is not a membership, you are not part of an exclusive club. All you need is a telephone, its nothing different than the vons club... Do they still have that? Most grocery stores around here dropped the silly club card junk a long time ago. I am a Costco member, not a sears member.
