Because you can commercialize Jurassic World very good.
Why?

Why is comcast or universal so impressed about jurassic world and why do they buy anything?

That‘s right
Sorry to burst the bubble, but just because a Mattel exec stated that “I believe our franchise catalog is unique. There’s nothing like it, next to Disney” doesn't make it true! HE believes it because he's delusional as well!!! And because he has to keep the house of cards from falling down. Can't exactly say that the catalog has only a handful of valuable franchises. As proof, how are all of those box office successes coming along? Which company would you invest in?
To the person who called my post ”pure fantasy”, I present this, a quote straight from the CEO's lips:
“I believe our franchise catalog is unique. There’s nothing like it, next to Disney.”
This is from the recent Fortune profile on Mattel, I guess we all know now that you're the one living in a fantasy.
That’s not interesting for us
i assumed that the comment(s) regarding a mattel streaming service were sarcastic. if anyone was truly serious, they are truly delusional.
Who is not happy that Comcast will buy us?
Comcast will solve the problems
Whoever posted this? Pure fantasy
" I mean, given the fact that Mattel's world-class portfolio of IP and transmedia properties is second only to Disney in terms of recognition and depth, it makes sense that they'd want to start a Mattel Streaming service, especially once you factor in all the feature films Mattel currently has in development"
There are zero comparisons between a failing toy company and Disney as the content provider. Not even in the same category.
Barbie - Most content is irrelevant now, all the old movies are outdated, cheaply made and very very poor. The recent content is better, but has already been hawked out to TV stations as a desperate bid to get the content 'free to air'. remove that from TV and there is zero demand as Netflix don't need more second rate barbie content
Thomas - Its a disaster, ratings have been falling year after year, TV stations won't touch it, and new content is still too slow derivative and unappealing to kids used to watching paw patrol. it's outdated and not relevant to kids
Bob - Dead IP
Monster High - Dead IP
Polly Pocket - Dead IP
Little People - Dead IP no one cares about
Ever After High - Dead IP
Enchantimals - Average content - Failing IP
And then there is the remainder of the dregs that are sitting around doing nothing. MOTU? HAHAHA
Meanwhile. Over at Disney
Disney
Marvel
Pixar
National Geographic
ESPN
Fox
Star Wars
Avatar
Really? You really think Mattel is even remotely anywhere near Disney.
Your enthusiasm is cute but delusional.
Mattel content is filler, any fantasies that they would be enough to create a streaming service on their own are pure fantasy.
Wake Up.
Let Comcast decide
I mean, given the fact that Mattel's world class portfolio of IP and transmedia properties is second only to Disney in terms of recognition and depth, it makes sense that they'd want to start a Mattel Streaming service, especially once you factor in all the feature films Mattel currently has in development.
Maybe they make a MattelStreaming service, but maybe they use netflix, amazon video,...
It's pretty obvious they want Mattel so they can start a Mattel branded streaming services for kids, like what Disney did with Disney +. Everyone wants to get a piece of that streaming pie!
I don't see any reason why Comcast would buy Mattel. Sure, there is some (limited) IP that is of value. So maybe they buy rights for a couple of brands (Barbie, Hot Wheels..sorry, no one cares about Magic 8 Ball and most of the others) to produce content and make some theme park attractions. But Comcast's broadband business is driving their performance. It would make more sense to acquire a smaller broadband player in an extremely high margin and somewhat more predictable business than to get into the world of producing toys, which is low margin and unpredictable. Just no reason to get into physical production, distribution, etc.
The company is going to keep going in some form. Just not in its exact form now.
"no existing content" true but there is at least a dozen feature films currently in different stages of development. Just be patient.
Comcast makes money by licensing their IP. They will not make any money if they own a toy company. Plus Mattel has no existing content they can use so they are useless to us. We are dead in the water waiting for our layoff papers.
The main point is that our jobs are save!
Comcast in no way wants to produce toys. License EVERYTHING out, maybe. But, own a toy co. No.
Now that you mention Jurassic World I finally get the Comcast connection. Mattel did a bang up job on JW line, Universal was super impressed and Comcast, who is Universal's parent company, took notice and decided to swoop in a buy Mattel for it's world class portfolio of transmedia brands and IP.
Wouldn't surprise me. He engineered/hijacked the entire Jurassic World pitch to be his interview for Universal.
Why not come full circle?
