This is becoming a PITA to deal with and no answers from anyone. What's going on?

To add a wrinkle to this: I am a bulk buyer of gift cards from several different sources, and I have been approached by a couple of my reps offering me much higher discounts than usual on Sears/Kmart. Very similar to what happened as Toys R Us struck an iceberg.
This has now happened at three store for me.

Maybe the money in the gift card account has been spent.
Maybe the people in charge at the home office of maintaining the gift card systems were laid off.
It's all over pebble. But no answers.
Shop at a Sears or Kmart at your own risk! I would advise using cash only, don't feel the systems have been maintained to protect your data.
No one left around anymore that can answer.
