Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Different Dpts.

If someone was in the mechanical dpt and was furloughed and took another job in a different dpt, would there vacation start all over or stay the same as in the 3 weeks they had in the dpt which they were furloughed, would there 3 weeks still count in the different dpt they went to?

I wish I could get onto the MOW department. It sounds pretty stable...

Vacation time is NOT based on company time! It is based on the number of years served under your contractual vacation agreement. For example Non operating crafts have an agreement signed in 1941 and the operating crafts (transportation) have another. You need to specifically email your manager or local chairman and have them email labor relations for the exact answer BEFORE you make your decision to transfer. Make sure you have a written response from Labor Relations.

Happened to myself and a few others. If you go from car dept to eng house or m of way it goes with you. If you go from a maintenance dept to transportation and then recalled back to your maintenance department you cannot use transportation time for vacation in your original dept. Different vacation qualifying requirements in transportation. Confusing, but that’s the way it is.

As long as you don’t quit, you will keep your vacation. It’s earned by time with the company.
