Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

This was a slap in the face

I was affected by the most recent CIGNA layoffs. 35 years of my life was given to them and at age 56 I’m told that my job was eliminated. My first thought was that they are gong to outsource to a the Philippines or Delhi. It doesn’t matter how good or bad the severance package is, getting laid off one month and 11 days before Christmas feels like a slap on the face and it’s extremely scary to be facing a job search and career change at 56. I for one am kind of glad to no longer be affiliated with a company that has no compassion or concern for it employees.

Watched the movie Company Men - and the HR scene when they are talking about "just throw some younger aged workers in the mix to cover the bias" to prevent lawsuits - Just like Cigna did. Funny how they can post jobs and not offer them to the ones where their positions are being eliminated. And good luck with any of your previous managers stepping up and helping you - won't happen.

Whatever you do, do NOT apply at United Healthcare! They are the worst company ever!! They do not care about their employees! Check out the UHC layoff page!!!

Yes. Cigna is totally corrupt with its layoffs. 18 years of my life at cigna. Then layed off due to outsourcing. It doesnt matter if you work holidays. Late nights of on call and all nighters. It doesnt matter if you get good reviews. The bottom line is management deflects blame to those at the bottom who do all the work and take all of the credit when projects are successful. Not good people.

It is very difficult to try and get hired back. Recruiters say they are moving forward then you never hear from them again. I don't understand if you were good enough to work 10-15-20+ years and get good reviews, bonuses etc... year after year all of a sudden you are not good enough. One problem is they have managers that do not know what the heck they are doing in charge of saying yes or no to hire. Been many times we would wonder "how did this person get this job". Frustrating... liked the work and 99% of people but probably time to let it go...

So.... 50+ seems to be the magical age to eliminate - that mean Cordani needs to go too, along with most of the so called execs. All they do is push around Powerpoints, have meeting after meeting and travel. There is so much wasted money and time being spent in lieu of keeping employees that actually do the work.

They did the same thing to me. I did receive severance (52 weeks) as I was there for 28 years. They wanted me to feel like they did me a favor extending my termination date until I turned 55 so I could "access" my pension and 401(k) benefits.

Because I wasn't an executive or a highly compensated employee, I am now looking for employment at 55 and spending over half of my life with the company. Job Elimination, ha

Good Luck getting another position or even an interview with Cigna once you are laid off by them. They do not like to re-hire!!!

Any new rumors as to when the next round of job eliminations will take place? We all know they are coming we just don't know when. I would think after the first of the year (2020). I cant imagine Cigna job eliminating anyone right after Christmas.

if you are age 55, you can use the IRS rule of 55 to take 401k money at your current job penalty free. This is only if you quit, layed off, or fired. Google IRS rule of 55, if you saved money in your 401k retirement plan, you will not starve.

Sorry this is happening to anyone else - we were the first round back in May - they are gutting the company and will find out offshore service will be terrible. Get what you pay for - I could not understand the person on the phone when asking about Cobra information. Rumor was no one could be moved to other departments until they went thru this exercise of eliminations. So unless you have a friend that would hire you it will be very difficult to move to another area.

You were let go because of your age and that is a fact. I worked for Cigna for 15 years and was let go once I turned 50 under a job elimination farce and I have seen many of good employees lose their jobs because of the magical age of 50 and above. If this is not blatant age discrimination, I do not know what is. We need to sue the fxxxed up company. Once you turn 50 you are coincidentally job eliminated, so they want us to believe.

I wasn’t laid off but I am on a team that was affected. They told us recently that it wouldn’t take place until the second quarter of 2020. In a statement given to my manager she told us those were the layoffs “for now” and that at this particular meeting she would not be taking any questions.
I am almost 56. There are people on my team training the offshore employees to do the job I do. I am expecting that I will be part of the next round of layoffs. They are only keeping me to work through our high inventory and then I will probably be let go.
I have always loved working for CIGNA. And I have been a good employee. They have handled this terribly from upper management to my manager. I have tried applying for other positions and have had a couple of interviews but no luck.
I am hurt and saddened by this and don’t know what I will do. I’m not married and do t have a significant other and I will need to get at least 2 jobs to really lace this one. I am also in Illinois where they just announced they are closing an office so there won’t be anymore new hires in this state.

I don’t know but I was in quality review /audit analyst. I can only assume it has something to do with that or because I’m 56 I am perceived as a liability. All I know I was blind-sided as well as the team I was separated from.

What division were you in? Was this related to the ESI merger?
