Mustang Crossover EV?

I feel like the Mustang brand is diminished buy attaching it to something as pedestrian as a midsize cross over. This could have been an opportunity to introduce a new brand name that could serve as a Halo for future EV development. It looks like a great vehicle, I just feel liked I'd be a little embarrassed to drive one with that pony badge on the front, what's next, a mustang minivan?

Using the Mustang name was really the only option if Ford is to stand any chance going up against Tesla. Let's say the went ahead and created a new brand, Evonix or something along those lines for example. Would anyone give a sh!t? I think not. Mustang is the big guns in terms of Ford's brand equity.

GM did the same thing, but Mary is to busy drama queening and political wave creating.
Her focus is definitely not vehicles.
At least Ford squeezed out the EV t–d first, considering there is less maintenance and moving parts in these pieces of c-ap the consumer should flat out refuse to pay anymore than 20k for it, after all it's an appliance now so you can essentially put a smart phone on wheels, boring.

Fords interiors s—, step it up.
The steering wheels look cheesey and cheap and the seats need to be updated big time. GM is the same, cheap and boring, FCA however offers a great interior.
The EV mustang is a t–d that is overpriced and no one will buy. All these less moving parts removed from the vehicle content should result in less cost for the vehicle.
It's an appliance and nothing more.

Mustangs sales are falling behind. it makes sense to use the name for the EV. it's a smart move.

Would you rather they give it an uncool name like the Bolt and give it an ugly generic look? No one will buy that

EV buyers buy electric for bragging rights. and Ford is giving it to them.

Congratulations to the team that came up with that.

Now let's do what we do best and build those cars!

Its personal vehicles. Testing vehicle (m-plate) charging stations are separate anyways! And I know a few long time ford employees owning teslas. Again nothing good or bad about owing a tesla, just a fact.

Many of those Tesla's are owned by Ford. They we're purchased in 2018 for competitive vehicle analysis

I'm not sure why you are upset about some people at those buildings having Telsas. Either says that 1.) we poached some talent from Telsa or 2.) they are keeping in mind what they need to strive to beat/match.

I hope people at Lincoln are taking time to drive some BMWs and Mercedes. How can we beat the competition if we don't know what the competition is about?

if the top 3 cool things include a door handle and a new logo, forget considering, I am not even going to read anything anymore about this vehicle. Read here - https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2019/11/18/10-cool-things-ford-mustang-mach-e/4214764002/

Go to building 1,2, 3 and 5 EV charging stations (for non-ford people, anyone in public can go see on a weekday between 7a, and 7p), and you will see people who worked on this vehicle, charging their Tesla's on Ford's dime. What's more to say!

I don’t like the looks, would not consider buying an EV with a range of only 210 miles. I drove that far yesterday to go to a family function that lasted just a couple of hours, needed the heat on all the way and that reduces the range. My uncle drove from Chicago to Detroit last winter in his Tesla, because he had the heat on he had to stop and charge 3 times! EVs are not great vehicles for cold climates, unless you are using them like golf carts around your neighborhood.

Our leadership is tone-deaf!

Tesla has been doing OTA, over the air, updates for 9 years! To act like it is a new idea and to boast how it was developed in a year is pretty sad.

40 to 62 grand, how can you sell these to the masses? How in hell are people affording these, I know, the stock market is up so they are feeling rich. Lol. Wait until the market crashes, I'm laughing already.

The press will report on sales vs upcoming Tesla Model Y, any incentives necessary to "sell them all".

I fear Ford will look bad. The best hope is that only a limited number will go on sale so they get snatched up by collectors. Otherwise I hope there will be enough special content to differentiate from Tesla Model Y.

So when the fully electric real Mustang comes out, what will they call that???

The Porsche/BMW/Audi folks have SUVS that maintain styling cues of their performance cars yet they have independent names. Makes sense to avoid diluting the brand. Look at the 911 - sedan is Panamera, SUVs are Cayenne, Macan, etc.

I saw the pictures and it’s an attractive SUV. I agree with the initial poster and don’t understand why it has to wear the Mustang label. The Mustang is an iconic vehicle and SUVs are so mainstream that it’s almost a contradiction. As attractive as it is it could have been a new offering and Ford needs fresh vehicles. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mustang lovers snatch them up because in 20 years it will be a collectors vehicle. In 20 or so years Mustang lovers will say “remember when they built a Mustang SUV”.

It's going to be a disaster quality wise. See how dependable it's going be given the fact that the unveiling was moved ahead by several months, in addition to Jim Hacka$$ cutting $11 billion from the company budget and how screwed up the Explorer launch went. I wouldn't touch it with a 100 foot pole. Say what you will about Tesla, they are 2 generations ahead in terms of quality and development.

IMO Ford can't take the path of EV's to save the world's environment as we sell too many huge trucks and SUV's. So I think the performance path is what is left.

They might make the new EV as good affordable for those who aspire to Porsche Panamera or the new 4 door supercars that are new or planned.
