Thread regarding Aetna layoffs

Aetna *Not* Hiring

Freeze on all new hiring until next year - vacant positions not being backfilled at any level.. work piling up with no relief in sight.. why? whole departments are crumbling under the weight of failure to support the business.. what gives? Seems CVS is hoarding Aetna net profit to open 1500 HealthHubs - way to fleece the insurance side of the business as a piggy bank for non-Aetna business concerns.. :(

Does anyone know what is going on with aetna in woodland hills california
or southern california branch office.
What is going on with the layoffs there?
Does anyone have contact with a worker there?
It is in a shared building with anthem and I am curious to know.
The people there are fending for themselves and do not like helping each other with anything.
I was there for a few years as an account administrator and they are all very tribal. They treat anyone that has not bee there for a few years or decades as dirt and look down upon those workers. I can't say I agree with that. Since a lot of them have working age kids and grandchildren it is really disrespectful I personally think.

So true. They hold positions so that departments struggle to operate. When you put your foot down and tell them you can not work 12-16 hours daily you go on the sh– list. Very poor senior executive team, including finance. They don’t care how staffing impacts care for members. The most important thing to this company is the bottomline.

Yeah were all in this together, I guess the executives at all the competitors are cutting everywhere in a race to the bottom. I work for UHG, it is worse than most. Were on a freeze and constant re-orgs. No promotions allowed. I guess the entire industry is so afraid of Democratic Candidates and their public option. the CVS merger throws even more issues for you guys at Aetna.

To Arthur Fleck
I have called the Philippines before too or was actually routed there for IT support and the background noise was deafening. There was laughter and loud conversation. In addition, it was difficult to understand the gentleman due to his very thick accent- mind you I was trying to get my computer fixed. He finally had to resort to using jabber to tell me what to do. It was a horrible experience:(

One thing that has bothered me and I saw it when I was at anthem also, was the laying off of american workers and the hiring of university educated, mostly men from india on 2 year h1b foreign work visas. They hired dozens of them. It wasn’t just that, but they also hire university educated workers in the philippines through outsourcing. I know this because I had to interact and talk to them. Think for a moment if a university educated american decided to get a job at an india company providing only health insurance within that country only or provide outsourcing to the philippines working at the pay rate they receive. Even if it was allowed, those places would never let it happen. They would laugh out loud. Yet we don’t think twice, for the most part, about temporary work visas and outsourcing people that can’t buy our american health insurance Or would only purchase it for a couple years. They have no vested long term interest in helping improve or provide american health insurance. I even remember making a call to the philippines several times. There was boisterous laughing and partying in the background and it was not anywhere near any holiday season. This type optional fun you just wouldn’t see here. Anyway, that is just my take on things.

If you can...stay at Aetna, hang on as long as possible. For one, UnitedHealth lay-off site is exploding with comments. They are a hot mess. I think many employees there are furious and they’ve done layoffs monthly!! So stay here if possible...

I heard the same is going on at UnitedHealth too....no company wants to mention layoffs in the Trump economy. Just worried about stock prices at this point.

As a medicare customer, noticed they eliminated the OTC customer service reps for ordering, put in an IVR, and sent rest to the Phillipines. I noticed immediately when I had to spell my name and acct no. 8 times before she got it. Also, 2020 benefit cut in half and only quarterly. The minute CVS merger, the moment members started getting screwed.

It's worse than that. Stripping out lots of people occurred on Friday, all departments. So not only a hiring freeze, but job eliminations, wholesale, with no press announcements. Like it's going to stay a secret.
