Thread regarding Sears layoffs

A remaining store.

Lease due, no product coming in, sending transfers out and members questioning. Stress of not knowing what the actual plan is to go forward. If you are offered work eslsewhere please take it. There is no way remaining will last.

Tons of Seritage owned stores have closed. So that's not really a factor in whether or not a store will close.

I UPDATED my list to show which stores are owned, based on the good information that my friend 3fqm provided. 6 stores are owned by Seritage, and they are listed below, with a letter "O". This was only done for Kmart stores on the mainland:

  • Statistics: Kmart absent in 31 states. 10 states, CO, IL, MI, MN, MT, NH, ND, NV, TX, WA, have only 1 each. MA, MD, NC, NM have 2 each. 48 Kmarts in US States total. Of those in the US, 16, marked with letter "P", have pharmacies.
The 6 mainland locations with letter "O" are owned by Sears, as opposed to the others which are leased. I did not bother researching the ownership status of the locations outside the mainland.
Speaking of which, Puerto Rico has 7 Kmarts, USVI has 4, Guam has 1, so 12 total stores outside of the US. 60 total Kmarts left as of now that are not closed or closing.
States with more than 2 Kmarts:
    CA: 10
    FL: 4
    NJ: 5
    NY: 6
    PA: 5

@3fqm THANK YOU so much for that, you're a genius buddy! Based on that, the only "owned" Kmarts left that are not closed or closing (many are currently closing), are: Big Bear Lake, Mckinleyville, Ramona CA, Edge Water MD, Columbia, Walnutport PA (as u stated), for a total of 6. I didn't bother Checking the territories, I only Checked the 48 US based locations. I went through each Kmart, cross referenced it with your Seritage list and was only able to match the addresses of 6 non-closing Kmarts, which are listed above, that are owned by Seritage. Of course that may not mean much, as there are plenty of Seritage properties on that list that HAVE closed, like Sidney NY, Lebanon PA, Wayne NJ, etc..
Sorry to bother you again, but where do you find the lease information for the other stores? So, if I would like to find out, about the 42, leased stores in the US, where do I get that information, as u did, for some of the PA stores? Thanks again, man, you have been great!

@3mcs. Columbia and Walnutport are on Seritage's owned property list: https://www.seritage.com/properties ; Edwardsville is owned by Acadia Realty: https://www.acadiarealty.com/properties/search/property/65-mark-plaza-edwardsville ("redevelopment"—hahahaha...bulldoze is more like it) ; Willow Street is here (September 2021 lease expiration): https://my.hfflp.com/GetDocument?BBArgs=g6roKJ1mkBkMbxvt_Un3S2sp2F1O_ljkNrflHOeV-gzTQMON ; Wind Gap is owned by Centerpoint Properties but doesn't show the lease expiration on their page: http://www.centerpointprop.com/projectprofiles.html

@3eej Do you have a source, as to which are leases or owned? I'm not doubting you, but I would like to see where this information comes from, and would like to look up the remaining stores across the country to see which is which. Of course, being "owned" does not in any way mean a store won't close, because tons of owned stores have closed along the way.

In terms of PA, Columbia is (or at least was) owned as well as Walnutport. The rest are leases. Willow Street goes out to the mid 2020s I think. As has been said, Kingston (Edwardsville) probably pays next to nothing in rent as the property is worthless if they leave. Wind Gap has no competition around but Giant would probably take issue with a Walmart setting up shop there.

Vendors and suppliers refuse to do business with Eddie Lampert's little company, Transformco. Why do business with a company that continues to close stores?

Here's a video of the store in question: https://wnep.com/2012/08/27/flooded-store-reopens/

@2lnq Kingston PA closed due to Flooding, for a while, like 2 Years ago. Then for some odd reason, they reopened, but I'm not sure why. There is almost nothing (non-Seasonal) listed for jobs at that location on the website. I think they'll be going next, along with several others. I just looked at a street view of that store. It's in a sad, empty mall, looking all decrepit by itself. I mean, seriously, are they being open just as a joke or parody of some kind? The place literally looks beyond deserted. I can't see a reason on Earth why that store is open LOL! Wind Gap, & Walnutport are decent stores with little competition around. But this is just plain sad.

Kingston is leased. It's just on garbage flood prone real estate in an empty shopping mall as the only tenant and they probably pay next to nothing for rent.

@1tio Is there a link somewhere which shows which stores are leased or owned? Regardless if Kingston is owned, though, they are done. Store is a dump, it's about 3 miles from Wally and Targym Ed has closed many "owned" stores, this won't be an exception. I think all PA stores will close Next Year.

Kingston and Walnutport are Eddie's I believe. Wind Gap leased as well as Columbia so they are gone.

@123SyUtK-1rhl Except that you'll be let go when the store shuts down so you are screwed either way.

Holiday hiring going on right now. Best time to leave all year. Even if you start out as seasonal, if you prove yourself, you'll get put on permanently.

California taking a hit as well as Pennsylvania. Confirmed soon. Walnutport and Kingston will be the only two remaining until the end. California not decided yet.
