Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

This is ridiculous

Wow, does media have its priorities skewed. Everybody and their aunt are talking about the $60 billion in revenue and the rise of UnitedHealth's share price as a result. How many do you think are mentioning the layoffs that have just happened - and now make even less sense than before??? I'm yet to find some...

11/3 I agree, it is being kept out of the news. I tipped off Star Tribune in MN, and Reuters, and have not seen ANYTHING. Maybe the alternative media is the way to get the word out. I hope this company sinks like the Titanic. They are so greedy, they can't manage to see they have shot themselves in the foot. ...best of luck job hinting everyone.

My position was recently eliminated after 20 yrs ( yes I’m 60) at another major healthcare insurer. I had thought to look for positions with United, but it sounds like not a good time. I will focus my search with direct health care organizations (hospitals, large physician practice etc.). Wishing everyone success.

1dkv ...u need to get informed and until its your butt sitting unemployed you can sympathize with the good employees that were let go who had good managers who were let go...the people trying to get back in our people with seniority and longevity, who wah, etc...clapping that your team is one of the few hiring but not once did they look at the layoff list to bring back good people. I had outstanding performance evals my entire time with uhc promoted 4 times...so why was i laid off, why was i not considered when re applying? You have all the answers! I'll wait..... uhc is a great place to work til its not....now that i am at ANOTHER health insurance company i am seeing how inexpensive great health insurance can be for employees, how much real skills are compensated and how happy employees really can be and that it does not take an annual vital signs survey to get that way!

More layoffs happened today. They may be hiring entry level positions, but do nothing to help the 3000+ recently laid off since the beginning of October.

I think UHC is doing everything it can to keep this out of the media. I have already emailed the tip lines about them laying off US workers and sending jobs overseas...nothing in the media. Yet when other major companies have outsourced work, it has been all over. Something is happening in the background to keep it out.

I talked to a current UHC employee recently and other than the fact they knew I was laid off - had no clue otherwise

Revenue is income. Take out of that our expenses. When you do only a few divisions of our company actually make a profit. It isn't all about revenue. Keep that in mind.

Provider services in Maryland .. they don’t need us. All can be done online. offshore can handle the rest. Already have let go of some bosses . More people to come. Calls have stopped coming in pretty much. Ones who do get through are upset do to offshore not transferring them to the states. Don’t be fooled. More are coming everywhere in the next few months

Departments lay off for many reasons. This company is all over the United States , South America an yea employees in India and in the Philippines . Regardless these are all your opinions which you’re entitled to but are not FACTs. Do your research an get your info from someone who knows the company before you make accusations. I work there now an our department is hiring for a training class in December. You talk about community an state department. Which is a broke department once they took on Medicaid. So yea eliminating lower performing employees is also an option too. In some cases people have good supervisors and management who will help them transition into a new job or get rehired if nothing was available in time. Some of these people also got severance packages too so think about that. I know of 3 employees who were termed 4 months ago due to lay offs in E&I who have since come back. If it was that bad more ppl would be quitting an other ppl wouldn’t be trying to come back .
