Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

Gulfstream is scared.

Let's get real folks. Gulfstream is likely already scared at the prospect of the employees organizing a union and it wouldn't surprise me if they have already hired a high priced anti-union consulting firm to wage a campaign against us. They know that our grievenances are legitimate but don't actually want to do anything about them because it is their intent to continue to take from us when it suits their purposes.

A lot of people are very stressed right now because of how Gulfstream leadership has handled this situation. A union contract will provide us with the stability that we need. Union contracts are typically 4-5 years in duration so we won't have to worry about them changing our compensation & benefits for long periods of time. Some people are also aprehensive about unions because of the possiblity of a strike. The good new is that we will always know when the contract will end and will have ample time to prepare ourselves to fight for better compensation and benefits when the time comes. Another great benefit of a union is that non-management white collar workers will be able to negotiate for overtime pay that won't be yanked out from underneath us whenever the company feels like it. I assure you that the company plans to get many more free OT hours out of you after they finish laying everyone off.

The most important benefit of a union is that the company will have to learn how to manage the business in a way that ensures we are not the ones who suffer when they screw up. Instead of taking from us, they will need to find other areas to make up for their mistakes. This will actually be beneficial to the company because it will make them more conservative in how they manage which will be good for everyone.

I promise you, if we decide to unionize they will fight with every ounce of energy to ensure it doesn't happen. There is a reason for this and it is because they fear losing the ability to make us carry the burden when they screw up. All you need to remember when they are spewing their propoganda is that they are doing so out of fear that they will no longer be able to walk all over us.

I’ve worked for two other OEMs before Gulfstream. Both had engineers unions, and both had massive layoffs like we’re seeing now. A union isn’t going to prevent another layoff.

The most terrifying words in the English language are: "I'm from the {union} and I'm here to help".

GM and Boeing have lay offs all the time, and they are union. Lazy and non performing hacks are the only people who benefit from a union because they can’t be fired. A union drains a company.

How about the simple fact that a poorly managed Union, yes they can s— too, will s— the life blood out of its membership. Union troll go home.

The exact moment GAC becomes a union shop is the moment I’ll quit no matter the circumstances.

So do you even work at Gulfstream, or are you just some union representative trying some sleazy techniques to get the union in the door here? From what I've seen, unions are just as corrupt, if not more, than you are making out the company leadership to be. If you really want to work at a union facility so badly, go find a job at one.
