Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Thanks for laying me off windstream

I was laid off a year ago after putting in over ten years of work for ws. I kept my head down and kept working as my benefits were reduced and pay increases dwindled to nothing. I experienced first management’s attempt to distract me from being fleeced through hr campaigns, slogans, and “wear Shorts to work” days and thenI experienced managements real attitude of contempt for its workers show its face with comments like “its not a prison”. It sure felt like a prison to me though. I thought what i had was better than the fear of the unknown so i stayed and worked my butt off and tried to not rock the boat so i could just keep my job and continue to support my family. I witnessed many friends and coworkers get laid off in one of the stealth layoffs we continually had. I was ashamed to be happy that it wasnt me. Then finally it was. I felt betrayed, all that loyalty and hard work. Anyway, heres the good part. I now have new work with normal healthcare benefits, a real 401k, and get this, a huge increase in pay (25% more). It would have take me twenty years to make this much if i was still at ws. It’s incredible how great other companies are out there. Windstream can be a prison if you let it.

"We are sorry to hear about your experience at Windstream, but thank you for writing your review."

You should also update your resume, your days are also numbered there! Unless you are a AI Bot.

Was let go after 20 years of hard work. Was there when it was trivergent/nuvox. We built a fantastic company. Then windstream came in and run it to the ground. The part that s—s is we spent time away from our families to build a great company just to have TT and his management come in and destroy what we built. I hope they all get what they deserve in the end. There is life outside of windstream. Get out now while you can find jobs. The house is on fire and the only person with a parachute is TT.

Windstream has the worst HR department is all of Telecom. Most HR staff don’t have college degree or have any understanding of people management.

They all work from home and has the same fear as us. When are they going to fire me? Am I next?

They barely make $30K a year and want you to think they are the boss. The one in Charlotte never showed up to work or meetings unless her boss was involved,

They are such a joke. One day someone will be teaching a class on how not to run a company and an hr department and id–tic things like this will be used as examples

"We understand how important a good leadership team is to the success and happiness of our employees and we are glad you are benefiting from our WINning leadership team. Thank you for leaving your review."

Some HR person had to type that with a straight face. LMFAO

This pretty accurately sums up my experience with Windstream as well. Upper management views the company as a means to personal wealth and the employees as a disgusting necessity. HR is an extension of that attitude using smarmy “im smarter than you” language and methods meant to pat themselves on the back and high five and wink at eachother at the workers expense. Most people left are afraid of being fired and dont share any knowledge or help others succeed and others are inept or have lost any care for what goes on. It is a cancer spreading down from the ceo infecting every molecule of the company.

I have asked my manager multiple times for an opportunity to advance. With many years at the company and a strong resume I think it’s a reasonable request. Instead people are hired from outside to fill all the growth spots.

And HR and upper management had to jump in on this thread. No one cares what you think

That first response is a picture perfect example of the company’s contempt for employees hidden behind fake corporate gobity goop.

My manager explained to me in my last review at WS that I was marked for an upcoming layoff due to my salary. I greatly appreciate his honesty and found another job quickly. I was there for 20+ years and knew that network like the back of my hand. I should hope my salary was high. No hard feelings, its a small industry and we may work together again in a few years. Job market is quite good right now.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Too often we never get to hear that side of it because the person is gone. Important information for someone considering a job at WS. As you can see from the HR spin on previous comment it is rare to get the complete story.

Thank you for your review. We encourage all employees to discuss career growth opportunities with their managers. Growth is important to us at all levels, and your manager is here to help map out any and all opportunities. We are sorry that you did not have the same experience when you were with us.
