Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

Is anybody still happy at Gulfstream?

I see so many unhappy people posting here and it makes me really sad. Gulfstream used to be a place where people liked their jobs and actually enjoyed working here... It seems like that has changed for good. And I'm not talking just about layoffs, but everything. The work environment more than anything, I guess.

So is there anybody who is still happy here?

I still love working for Gulfstream. If I get laid off I will apply again in the future. Layoffs are part of the industry sadly but I knew that going in.

I don't know about everyone else, but I feel compensation is plenty fair. The problem is not the company, it's the people. When you promote backwoods youngsters into leadership / management positions, and poor performing managers into higher level positions, you have a recipe for disaster.

These types of changes being spoke of have been going on since the early 90's all across the US. Big corporation and Fortune 500 companies have been doing away with retirement packages for over 3 decades.

Gulfstream never started as a Savannah born business. The locals were just fortunate that someone decided to start it here.

I hear all the time how the new programs aren't as good as the old programs. Believe what you wish, but technological advancement has and will continue to be made. Get on board or get out of the way.

Pride is something you create and carry as your own. Same with happiness. If you're a miserable human being, it doesn't make everyone else one.

So, to the OP, I am happy. I love my job. Thanks for asking

I have been through a few of these cuts now and they certainly don’t get easier. This one was different. I certainly won’t look at this company again the same way. Too many good people let go. I think the energy is gone, it’s just a job now. I feel no loyalty to them as they show no loyalty to us.

I worked with the "old guys" that contributed to the original giv program. They were passionate about the effort. When is the last time anyone has been witnessed being enthusiastic about anything, anymore. It tends to be brow-beat out of people.

Gulfstream used to be a picture perfect happy family where everyone contributed, was appreciated, and benefited fairly. It was a company where the customer was king and everyone knew they were the reason for being there. As a result, everyone worked hard and took pride in pleasing the customer, this ultimately built up an amazing brand. Sadly, now it is a broken home ravaged by divorce and greed.

Today here is what Gulfstream is about:

(1) GD and Gulfstream executive compensation is king and as a result Wall Street must be appeased at all cost.

(2) Next comes middle management and their enablers in patsy HR who aspire for the top but most will parish in the fatal funnel of careerism.

(3) Then you have the customer who thinks they are buying the brand of 10 years ago but are getting the brand of a broken home.

(4) Finally, you have the blue collar workers and engineers. These are the people who used to feel appreciated, took pride in pleasing the customer, and were fairly compensated for their contribution to making and maintaining a world class brand. Now, these are the people who are making all the concessions for (1) & (2) and watching in anguish as their once blissful and proud family is destroyed.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Gulfstream is lost for (4). We have passed the point of no return and the only way for us to get a fair deal is to organize a union that fights for us and our piece of the prosperity. At this point, a union is the only thing that will make positive change for (4) and I assure you without out it, the concessions will continue.

It stopped being fun years ago on G650 when the Program schedule was King above all else. That hasn't changed since then. There was a small reprieve after the accident but it didn't take lone before it was business as usual again.

Working at Gulfstream used to instill a sense of pride, now sadly it’s just a job.

I dont see many people staying after the RIF, especially if they have worked elsewhere. Telling people that they may get layed off 1 month in advance and have them stressing over that period is not a work environment anyone would want to deal with.

Yes, I am! But I don't consider my happiness to be Gulfstream's responsibility.
