I really can’t see any way that they will stop at this, so I guess the natural question that comes to mind is who is going to be next on the chopping block, and how big of a reduction of workforce are we looking at when this is all over? Also, can we expect an organized wave of closures soon?

20% reduction in GO staff and then eliminate several divisions and consolidate the remaining in super divisions 250 to 300 stores.
#job security!
Co-managers will be next, both cos at my store have said that they will be going through this soon enough. Most people I know expect them to do away with department heads/leads afterward, and there's a lot of speculation that the next union contract will include something that makes it easier to get rid of hourly employees who have been around too long. Granted, that's speculative, but considering the increasingly poor way this company is being run, it wouldn't surprise me at all. My (now former) store manager all but said that speculation is what's coming in the next two years (he was one that did not get fired, just moved to another store).
Not closing stores and there won’t be managers operating multiple stores. This is nothing more than the company cutting out the huge amount of back end labor they allowed to get out of hand. This company has a history of doing this exact same thing. If the rumor is also true, cutting assistant store managers. Most stores have 3 assistants, which is too many. The fallout of this is going to be seen down the road. People are going to be apprehensive about moving into salaried management.
The 15% at GO
I am sure is probably planned retirements..
Have heard the number is 200 heads lost at Smiths..and some Store Managers will be managing 2 stores..
Along with the closing of stores..
This ceo might be selling the business
The minute they stated doing 12 lanes of self checkout. We all knew this would happen next. Refuse to check myself out. I don’t work there I don’t plan on checking myself out. Stop checking yourself out. Give back their jobs. We can’t find anything already.
2020 15% reduction in head count at GO.
Be serious....can't even obtain and retain lower level employees now as it is. If this newfound money isn't tricked down to the actual workers, there's gonna be a lot of a–holes from Cincinnati stocking shelves!
