Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

HR RIFs are today

HR is falling on the sword first. Not pretty ... Losing long-time knowledge and talent. Feeling sad and numb.

Brilliant display of hypocrisy, there... Taking a moral stand against those who would "demean" others - by calling them out as "bozo's" (sic), no less.

Some comments are way off base. But some are relevant, if not poignant. Perhaps you could better articulate, in the future, what constitutes a "bozo", so that people actually know what your ethical and intellectual frame of reference, is.

90% of these posts are generated by bozo’s who simply like demeaning others.

I can't believe that anybody would downvote the comment about HR getting to participate in, and being affected by the same hiring systems as all of us. That it is a broken system in need of serious fixing, should be a no-brainer. It's the only way the system might have a chance of changing. To date, I still don't know anyone that has been hired directly from a company website. I, too, have been rejected for jobs for which I'm well qualified, just based on some stupid algorithm. I'd love to know how many good candidates get overlooked every year by companies who hire in this manner.

This is also going to be a great learning experience for some HR folks to get a good taste of how hard it is to get hired in today's "Systems based" hiring world. That situation when you are 90% qualified for a job, have an internal referral, you apply for it at the company website, only to get rejected in minutes, flat. Fun times. Maybe one of the affected will help get that fixed for the rest of us, when they experience the pain, firsthand.

It wouldn't be right if so many people got cut and HR wasn't affected. Most organizations have formulas or ratios for how many employees to supervisor/manager/etc, are required to support the necessity of said positions. Why would any company need so many HR people, when the numbers are being reduced? It makes no sense to have a personnel organization, when you're running down numbers of actual personnel. If we hadn't (collectively) changed the department name years ago, from "Personnel" to "HR", this might be a little more self-evident. So, I'm really sorry for you HR, but this is how it feels from the other end. It's a great opportunity to develop a heightened sense of compassion/empathy. And a reminder that there are no free passes...

Whatever. They couldn't hack it so they need to have their sliver of power by holding carrots on one hand and whips in the other over people's heads. Businesses succeeded for a long time before useless HR. Nowadays employees walk on eggshells fearing violation of some stupid policy or some eavesdropping coworker mishears something and gets "offended" when they twist what they thought they heard into something else.

Many folks in HR barely make ends meet. They are just workers trying to make end meet.

Have some respect please.

"Long time HR talent" is an oxymoron.

Not everyone in HR is a Business Partner, Manager or decision maker.

Some of us are working ‘in the trenches’ just like you, so we can make our house payments and put food on the table.

I hate to see anyone who works hard, lose their job.

At least three in HR Technology. Long-term, valuable employees. Not business partners. One is a manager.

Long time talent?! You mean long time "yes anything the manager says I agree with no matter how ridiculous." HR business partner, oh wait that's actually HR manager partner.

There are always a few good ones that get burned by the overall bad, and that's sad. But in my experience and the stories I've heard from others, this is an excellent move by the company. About time!

Thought I remembered HRC by the Georgia Tech campus getting cleared out well before the big day in December back in 2015.

HR was RIFd first in 2015, as well. They won’t make HR people work on RIFs and then RIF them after.

As for how many were walked out... I can’t say because it isn’t over yet. And, they haven’t all been let go at the same time.

This is true. It doesn’t matter to me who believes it. I’m just keeping the post updated.
