This is a bad situation, but maybe, just maybe good decisions will be made this time and Gulfstream and employees will come out of it better off. Hopefully, the people in charge will consider the value of those with years of Gulfstream experience and knowledge, and be mindful of the long term consequences, if that talent is lost either by RIF or attrition.

So you are suggesting that the way to deal with real world problems, is with heaping doses of catharsis? That honestly sounds crippling to me. When one combines both thinking and emotion, one arrives at reason - a much better way to get through tough times. All of this slagging and spewing is just a means to generate negativity. It really won't solve a problem, and will ensure that one remains enslaved to their original issue. The person who complains the most, and the most vocally, has only demonstrated that they are really great at complaining. These layoffs are real. What will you do next? (note: the complaints won't help) I also tend to find that people with all of the answers in the worst of times, are also usually the ones who understand the problem the least. I sure don't have all the answers. And I'm quite certain that "boots on the ground" folks have very little working knowledge of the machinations of a complex business, such as this one. Rather than pitch our theories, it might be nice just to spend the time helping each other get back to employment. Because the boardroom is not our domain...
Likely this site is cathartic for many. Telling folks to use their critical thinking skills sounds like something out of a Dilbert cartoon. What is needed is empathy and critical thinking skills from those making the decisions. Let’s hope that some logical decisions are being made with input from surveys or other objective evidence such as individuals that abuse personal business time.
Has anyone else noticed how the most emotionally charged posts, with the highest level of bitterness and vitriol, get the most "likes"? Shouldn't that tell you something about this site, and the people who frequent it? I mean, if I didn't know better, I'd say this was just therapy for those who can't cope with real life issues. Note: not everything is the result of somebody out to get you, or someone keeping "the little guy" down. GS is not an employee owned company. We, "the people", do not own the means of production. You were bought and paid for by somebody else's dollars. You agreed to this. I get that it's frustrating, but what ever happened to critical thinking skills? All I hear is gossip and moaning. If you don't own the brand, and if you were hired as a link in the chain, you have no right to take things so personal. I don't know about anyone else, but I've been working aircraft for over 25 years, and I've always - since I was a 19 year old kid - known that it's unstable. Nobody ever made me any promises in this industry, and I've never implied them. Sheesh...
I’d rather keep a smart international than a deepshit racist US citizen. Just saying.
Most, if not all, worker visas are for filling positions that can’t be filled by US Citizens. They would need to make a strong case for laying off a citizen in favor of a visa holder. That’s not racist, it’s the law. I realize the system has been abused to the point that it’s unrecognizable to drive down wages in STEM jobs, but it’s still the law.
GAC should lay off low performers, regardless of age, s-x, nationality or visa status. Do not be racist, red necks!
Definitely let the employees on work visas go first. It will be extremely foolish of the management to lay-off US citizens & burden the economy. The company spends so much money on visa processing and green card sponsorships upwards of $10-20k. Then every other year or so the stamping process takes 1-2 months that’s if they don’t get stuck. If they do, they don’t come back for months all this time being GAC employees. It’s time that upper management really focuses on this issue and trains the US workforce rather than relying on people from outside. No wonder the country’s economy’s is getting sh–tier.
The d–g dogs in the parking lots were the first signs of the pending layoffs. ...GAC looking for any excuse to fire people without having pay them (but I can't fault them for that, it's business) . To my knowledge, all contractors with less than a year left on their contract were the first to get cut. Next were those employees working on a US visa. Not sure of the legality of laying off so many people at one time but I believe the company has to give 30 days notice. Based on when everyone was notified, I would expect the next round of cuts at the end of next week.?. I learned early that this business is very cyclical, hiring hard for years and then cutting harder. If you didn't expect this then you have been blind to all of the clues leading up to our current situation. I feel for all of those talented employees who have or will be cut in the near future. So far, talent and experience haven't been a factor in those that were picked to exit. It seems that it has been a numbers game without even Director level input as to who should stay or go. I hope the direct employee lay offs are performed with more consideration. For those that remain with the company, we will be required to pick up the slack and work even more hours of overtime. For those that are cut, best of luck! but none of us will have it easy. ...all for a very temporary boost in corporate earnings and overweighted bonuses to those making the poor decisions at the top.
A certain person in leadership brought all the cronies from their previous gig with them. These people couldn’t get a job shoveling sh– at the circus yet they’re all E11s, Directors and Sr Managers etc.... They decimated their last employer and follow this person around because they have no marketable skill other than kissing one persons a– and riding coattails. If they fall, I’ll be a believer in leadership again. But my suspicion is they will be protected and this RIF is nothing more that a popularity contest.
Make Gulfstream great again!
