Every time you say the words "burning platform" you are letting your team members know you are a puppet and willing to stroke the ego of an out of touch VP with a bad idea.

I punched out during the "you don't know what you don't know' days. Glad to see that one in the rear view mirror. Used to think "you don't know sh**t to use that buzz phrase"!.
I remember during a 6 sigma/lean push in the early oughts, one of the manager would say "we need to act like one of the engines is on fire"
Yup, I remember about 20-25 years ago when "Paradigm Shift" was the buzz phrase of the times about identifying problems and how to solve them.
Not just a bad idea. An idea discredited by both academia and industry. What a joke.
This is what happens when a VP manages by reading books. They read a book and yank the org in that direction. Read another book and off we go in a different direction.
Maybe he intended it to be no more than a way to measure our ability to communicate passion. He would probably say the org is reading too much into it. Of course then it was just an underhanded way to audition/rank people.... black book in action.
Meanwhile at the front line we are left wondering what to eat... doesn’t it remind you of the food headlines?
