I am one of those 25 year employees that has turned down the VERP three times. I find some of these responses hilarious. My boss is half my age and obviously thinks my professional experience and dedication to getting the job done are far off better than multiple fledglings who would rather sit at their desk and play with their social media on the cell phone. Ask one of these guys if they will work a weekend or stay late and you will hear nothing but crying. To Quickdraw up above. If your thought process encompasses the average employee retiring after 25 years of work, you are either working for the government with a pension plan or have no clue that your finances will have to bridge you for another 20 years until you are 66 and collect your SS with your 401K. But of course, that type of planning will have you back at home living with mom and dad. :) Does not matter if you are 25 years old or 55. Age does not make an effective employee.

If VERPs were the answer to NOV's problems, NOV would be soaring with the eagles. The reality is VERPs have had no impact on improving productivity. If the old and tired were truly holding back the young and ambitious, NOV would have rocketed forward by now. There have been thousands of VERPs without any noticeable improvement in technology, increased orders, efficiency, or any other metric used to judge a company. Changes need to be made at the top.

I can't speak about corporate or other divisions in the company but at Tuboscope the "old timers" are needed. They have a ton of information that's very useful whether you think so or not.
Be careful about what you young boys wish for. One day the same thing is going to be said about you and how incompetent you are and how you are holding the company back and you need to take the package.

I agree everyone that has worked in NOV management for more than 25 years should be forced to take a package as they are the stale fat cats holding what used to be a good investment back with their selfish and ignorant attitudes, all they are interested in is their bonuses and stock options.

We don't need another VERP, we need a PURGE....of the so called leadership team.
Fact is even if there was another VERP it would be the same stubborn old folk that would still not take it. If they didn't get the hint the first, second or third time...just lay them off. Its not like Varco is valuing their expertise.
Don't get mad old-timers, truth is truth. You guys are holding down this company as well as the executives at the top, if there is another package...take it for Gods sake.

More VERPS that is not what we need. Or is it, if there is another VERP the people who really need to take them please do. You have old timers at the top with old school years that need to go. They are not in touch with today’s oilfield. Wake up from your nap, we are not getting anymore multiple new offshore rig sales. It’s time to forget those times, it’s time to hit the streets. But that could be an issue too, they drove these customers away with lack of appreciation and lack of service. This leadership still has the old school salesman mentality, sit and wait for the BIG RIG DEAL. But again, reality check, they have lost 4 out of the last 5 new offshore rig orders. They won one but lots of questions around this one order. Time to get out the big office chair and find orders, go visit customers and listen to them. Don’t assume you know what customers want, you know what assume gets you right ???
