Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

Who else wishes it was all done by now?

Why stretch it out like this? Why let us know there'll be layoffs sometime within a month and then let us wait and stress about it? I feel like I'd be happier even if I got the news I was laid off if I were to get it today. This wait is just unbearable.

I don't see why they have to be so unnecesarily cruel.

Well so far they've only removed the contractors and they don't work for Gulfstream they work for contract houses. So I would believe if those laws do not apply I'm not lawyer but

Don't forget about the loophole where severance counts in the WARN act period. So 2 months severance = no warning.

the WARN Act requires employers to give notice of any mass layoff, that does not result from a plant closing but will result in an employment loss of 500 or more employees during any 30-day period.

I would hope that whoever let the email out has already been fired or will gets RID’d.....but will probably get promoted instead.

The sudden announcement was a knee jerk reaction, because somebody slipped and let an email loose. VPs had to scramble to cover the situation. And appear transparent.

Federal Regulations require written notification when lay-off affects 100 or more employees. It is painful though.

The WARN Act might be what you are recalling:

I believe that if there is a layoff that exceeds a certain threshold, a 30 day heads up is required. Don't know the rule or precedent that supports that, but that's what I heard. Guess that means it could be a big one.

I think you are giving management to much credit... they obviously didn't plan on rolling this out so early. I would venture to guess that someone let it slip and that in an effort to get ahead of it they rolled out the announcement. If they had it their way I am willing to bet it would be like the 2015 Layoff. Contractors would get call (of their badge would just stop working) and the directs would be told the next day.

Agreed. I have no idea what management was thinking on that decision. I'm guessing it was a move to try to get some people to voluntarily leave first. Why worry 90% of your workforce for a month is beyond me.
