Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Anyone read the article in PW with Daunt giving more flexibility to manager and experienced booksellers over their stores.

How can that be when they got rid of most of those employees over 1 1/2 years ago. The people they hire now are not trained properly, don't care, are not invested and don't stick around for very long. And the ones that did get to stay, don't have a clue and only care if it means they can keep their job. I think a lot of people are in denial and severely delusional.

A LOT of books shelved in the wrong place. Spoke to the SM and ASM about it. They don’t seem concerned.
I don’t know whose making the mistakes ( I work in the evenings) The backstock shelves in the backroom are a mess too. Finding books for customers has turned into an ordeal.
I know for a fact a lot of my fellow workers just don’t care. The atmosphere in this store has changed. There used to be pride in this store.

Once upon a time BN was known for being THE place to work. And, THE place to shop....
Not anymore.

I’ve heard from friends that remained, that the part timers that replaced the knowledgeable just don’t care.Used to be book people applied now they just took breathing bodies who’ve worked the drive thru or overnight at Walmart, just to have a body on the floor. 2 don’t know their alphabet and the mgr doesn’t want to “ embarrass” them & point it out. So, books being mis shelved . Beyond sad, pathetic.

“ So far everything I'm hearing from managers has been positive.”
Are you serious?!
Remember. These are the SAME managers who LIED , telling the full leads & receiving their jobs were safe. Knowing, the whole time, they were to be fired.

You realize they didn't let every experienced bookseller go, right? My store still has plenty with decades of experience. It really does get old reading the same sh– on here every day about the unfortunate staff who were fired. Yeah, it s—ed. I knew a few of them. But there are lots of people there now who know books and work veey hard. Quite a few experienced part timers as well. I want to see what Daunt has planned. So far everything I'm hearing from managers has been positive.

I found a STEPHEN KING book on the shelf, in the authors “C”. The book ? Dolores Claiborne. ( shelved alphabetically correct, if the author was Claiborne)You mean to tell me the person who shelter does not know that Stephen King is an author?
That’s what’s working there now !

That’s going on in my store too. We can’t find lots of titles on the shelves. Lots of mishelving . Sad.

Year and half ago! And those who let got whined and complained about the place while they were there, just like there doing here now. What is it going to take for you to move on?

Do you know where you’re posting? Layoff.com !
They are talking about the layoff that happened.
I agree this must be a member of management trolling here.
Try walking in One of your stores if you want to hear whining and complaining.

You MUST be a mgr or a DM...
Those in my store DID NOT whine and complain about their job. 3 of them were with the company in excess of 12 years. One was at BN over 20. That was their livelihood and CAREER and they were damn good at their jobs. I left after what they did to them. Disgusted by it.
Like I said , you must be a mgr or DM to have such a lack of compassion for what happened to them. Seems like the WHINERS and COMPLAINERS are working there NOW, along with the complaining customers for the lack of service , etc.

“AMEN”
I’ll see your AMEN & raise you a HALLELUJAH!
The stupidity of letting their vote people go will ( SHOULD !!!!) haunt them till their doors close for good. In the mistreatment of them they lost THOUSANDS of customers who are family & friends to them. And they told people why they won’t shop there, etc. etc.
the part timers are just there till they find another job that’ll pay them .25 cents more an hour. There’s NO loyalty, NO investment.
