Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Houston Mechanical

Is not looking good. VP Big Tom is targeting Houston for a shutdown. Apparently because it has too many people and because it is in close proximity to other shops in the area. Any words on this.

Until they fire the DROs and other do nothing positions like that I don’t take their PSR seriously. They’re firing the low wage earners and keeping all the fat. They’re a bunch of Harrison wannabes except they don’t have Harrison’s guts

I have no problem with being productive and efficient during the day but ILP is completely rigged against us. You can start a 12 hour mod and not get a single our because you didnt close the task. Also half the tasks that should "dont apply to this locomotive" so if I get sent go wire up a wrecked repair or unwire blowers for a main gen change theres no tasks to get time for that.

Ok so the assumption is that they want to close another shop because of the numbers? When you have bigger shops, then certain problems are going to bigger and more frequent. That's a no brainer there. The upper management wants everyone's numbers to be up, and will cut anyone who's numbers aren't high enough. Tom Lischer is a fat a– joke, right along with the rest of them in the Omaha sh–house. Their thinking is that everyone gets graded on their efficiency. Ok what about upper management? How do they get graded? The UP CEO makes nearly 14 million a year, and I haven't seen him do anything that's impressive at all. Add up everyone's pay at the HQ, and that would probably pay all the furloughed employees for five years. I could easily do his job, and I'd do it for considerably less pay. So think about this, he's making almost14 million a year to f— this company up. Can't wait to see what his retirement package is.

He didn’t have that kind of stroke when he was there but I bet the mechanical was his biggest problem as far as injury’s go. The place has been a mess for decades.

If you shut down an area you used to be in charge of does that mean you were being wasteful for years and didn’t let anybody know?

Agreed that there are numerous, lazy, entitled, P.O.S., all over, but most that came here did not arrive here this way. Problem is, no matter if you hit 600% efficiency, or exceed any goal that they set forth, it doesn't matter. Getting furloughed is like death and taxes, when it's your time, the powers that be will make it so. Doesn't matter how many hoops, or how high you jump. Note to management, If you want to receive respect, give it when it's due, don't lie to those that you rely on!

And walked out like criminals is right. Give us your badge, don’t go back to your desk. This person you’ve never met will make sure you get to the elevator and there are agents posted throughout, so leave and don’t set foot on the property after this. We’ll ship your stuff.

Lol nobody has pride at UP. How much did that pride help all those people in Omaha walked out of the glass building like common criminals? And they probably had more pride than anyone else till the bitter end. They’d chase you down the street for jaywalking or going up the escalator without a death grip on the handrail. No, now pride has been replaced with embarrassment to work for UP

So it wrong for the company to expect you to sit on your a$$ for no more than 3 hours on an 8 hr shift? Maybe that’s why they won’t this company more efficient.

About the 60% production are you saying they should pay you for not working. What’s wrong with a place of employment wanting you to work. That’s the problem to many people think their untouchable because their hire date. They think the longer your there the less work you have to do. We all get payed a good wage to work. If you don’t want to work quit and go somewhere else. I can’t wait to see these lazy worthless piece of junk workers are held accountable. No matter what your craft or the color of your hat. Come in and do your job what your payed to do. Have some damn pride in yourself and the work you do. If you owed your current location I can bet you would let this kind of behavior take place. So why should UP.
