Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Employee Surveys

The employee surveys are being sent out to be completed despite all these layoffs. Yet I didn’t hear or see any improvements from the last survey. So what is the point? Are the surveys actually kept confidential or do they use them to tag you for layoffs? I’m a new employee so I’m just asking.

The so called "Vital signs" survey is a JOKE! Nothing ever comes from it! The reason your supervisor pushes so hard for his employees to take it is because the participation numbers on his or her team affects their raise!! Also, i was told by my supervisor " if we get a bad score on a certain aspect, we can EXPLAIN it away, if we get a good score, its not a problem, BUT.... They cannot explain away a NEUTRAL, or a SO-SO for a score". Guess what my survey had all over it???......hehehehehe!

Seems like another way for them to pretend that they care or to those who score them low to put a target on their backs for retaliation and/or lay them off.

They even removed some questions from this years employee survey.

anything you have to login to (like the employee survey) is not anonymous.

I have been with the company for years before they ever did these surveys. In all the years they have done the surveys I have never seen any change occur in any department or company wide based on the results. The surveys are a joke. And all the ‘workgroups they have to address the bad results are a waste of time/resources. These people do not have the power to make the major changes needed.

They are anonymous ... that I can promise you BUT know that the higher your team scores the more your team is eligible for bonuses and less likely for being targeted for layoffs.

Confidential and anonymous do not mean the same thing. A quick web search will tell you confidential surveys are tied back to individuals while anonymous surveys are not. Follow the vital signs info links and you’ll see vital signs may be confidential but it is NOT anonymous. Another quick web search will tell you it is perfectly legal to fire employees for giving an employer poor feedback.

They like you to complete surveys because they count it as proof of engagement. If everyone would stop filling out surveys it may show lack of engagement. Then they can’t claim NPS scores as good with employees. Look at the volume of comments on this site tho! 2019 has been a big year for UHG/Optum. This is the year we are getting vocal.. Hooha!

Stop taking those ridiculous surveys.. They don't care about anybody's opinions or else they would have changed our benefits packages YEARS ago!!

They should get rid of all the supervisors, as they don’t have the slightest clue about housecalls. Each time you ask them a question, they never have the answer to them. They are getting paid to do payroll and gossip all day. HR can do payroll.

They are confidential. Only risk if you score them really low and the manager could figure out who would do that.

They are not completely anonymous as there is a tracking number. The manager does not know the name.but they than spend the whole year trying to figure out who have them low scores. If they really wanted to save some money. They get rid of the managers and go to team leads.

High level managers are expected to have a certain % of surveys completed for their teams. At least with Vital Signs it was like that, so they made you participate. Who knows if they are truly confidential. I do know at the Director level and below the scores are given as a tdownline team and they do not know who put what score just an overall score for each question for your group. Any low scores are a point of emphasis for the next year I do not know about any comments. You can be honest and rate what you think or play it safe and put high just in case.

Can't be sure if they are kept confidential. It would be nice to assume that any employee concerns would be taken seriously, but highly doubt it. Best to avoid this exercise in futility.
