Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

These layoffs were handled in a sneaky way

I'm still employed but how the company has handled these layoffs is sneaky. One of my coworkers was laid off while she was on PTO! Not to mention this has occurred shortly before the holiday season. The PTO accrual is generous but folks will lose anything accrued over 40 hours unless they live in a state where UHG by law is forced to pay out all earned PTO. Over the last 2 years I have followed several HubConnect discussion threads related to internally applying to job posts. Finding another position within the company is extremely difficult. I thought my nearly 50 submissions without any positve outcomes was bad...other people had even worse experiences. I was able to transfer twice in my early years, once due to nearly all people in my department having been laid off. I loved working here for the first 5 years. For the past few years, not so much... except for many fantastic colleagues.

I am getting one week for every year employed but lose benefits at the end of the month. Also get any unused PTO up to 40 hrs.

Internal application process is a joke! I have applied for probably 30+ positions in the past 10 years as well as following up with the recruiters listed on the req #'s. They don't respond and they don't even contact you when the position is no longer available. What a joke. How 'bout let those people go because they are useless. Unless you know someone you aren't going anywhere in this company. And they usually lay off on Fridays from what I've seen in the past few months. Would love to know what kind of package are getting. Are they letting people keep their health insurance coverage for an extended time without going thru Cobra, as c-appy as the coverage is? How many weeks pay are they getting? Are they giving them any time at all once they tell them, or is it just OK shut down your computer this is your last day kinda thing?

That is their standard procedure.

We were told that we had to use up our accrued time off before the end of 2019. Only eligible to carry one week into 2020.
