Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Changing business needs

Laid off due to 'changing business needs' after almost 20 years with OT. Offered severance package. Contacted attorney to review and retained same on a contingency basis.

Finding appropriate contact information for UHG's general counsel is difficult to say the least as no telephone number or email address, except general information (eg, HR Direct)...

However, knowing the corporate culture which drives the desire to 'pass the buck' was helpful in this regard. Typical UHG ineptitude and sleaziness.

Agree. I was given a severance before and paid an attorney $200 to review the agreement to which they said that unless you have a claim of discrimination, you have zero standing. Most states are at will employment so they do not have to have a good or just reason to lay you off as long as it was not based on discrimination.

Who even bothers with an attorney on a contingency or any other basis to review a severance release? These documents are the same for every company and very straight forward. It's not rocket science. In a nut shell, you give up your right to sue if you take the deal. Call the attorney and end that "contingency arrangement".

So you posted this same message previously. How is that attorney on contingency working for you? I am guessing not so well since you have to repost this again.
