Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

End of life equipment being redeployed

You know WIndstream is in the toilet when they redeploy equipment the manufacturer wont support. No replacement parts except for eBay or other 3rd party sellers, No technical documentation available from manufacturer and no support software.
Imagine someone trying to use a 20 year old computer to keep a business running and saying they are cutting edge. Well that is exactly what WIndstream is doing for its customers. Also, the poster stating WIndstream has a lot of Huawei equipment in the network is 100% accurate. But undeserved bonuses and for those that care nothing about the customers or the employees is the main concern. Truth may hurt - but that does not dilute the facts!!

A quarter of that is to maintain their retention bonuses and the rest of it is for the Elite sales trip and new logos. They wouldn't know how to fix our network even if they wanted to.

Windstream has a billion dollar line of credit during its bankruptcy that was agreed to by the judge and its creditors just so it would not have to maintain its network with chewing gum and duct tape fixes.

Citibank is loaning that money on the basis that it’ll get repaid before any creditors.

In other words, even the creditors understood a lot of money had to be spent so they could have something viable after chapter 11. They saw they could get more of their money back in the long term using this approach.

So it’s unfortunate that the company isn’t taking advantage of this. Not to buy a whole new, gold plated network but at least to do a creditable job of maintaining what they’ve got for the long term.
