Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Where are the Unions?

Now that the railroads have sued SMART-TD to reopen crew consist, the conductor jobs will probably be gone. Where are the protections we so need, where is the job security we were promised, why are we still supporting feckless union leadership?

They are sitting at their desks, making sure your dues are paid, and nothing more.

You’re way behind the the power curve if you’re preparing for one man crews. Start preparing for autonomous trains. It’s being worked on now and you need to start figuring out your career path. Unless you’re like most railroaders and don’t believe in planning past your nose, if at all.

The company will get what they want. Prepare for 1 man road crews. It will happen. No one especially your union can or will stop it.

Union officials have been compromised a long time ago. Just make believe they don't exist. Actually, one doesn't need to imagine. They have been compromised. It really s—s when we need them most, they side with the carriers. Please everyone, watch out for yourselves. Do not rely on your representation. We will loose every time.

Elections are this month. Vote them all out and vote in new guys that WANT to make a difference. That guy that cares and speaks up. That guy that studies on what can help save jobs. Vote for that guy that isn't afraid to stick his neck out at the expense of his own job to better the craft as a whole. THATS THE ONLY WAY IT CHANGES. VOTE VOTE VOTE.

I agree with most of this except the JOB SECURITY part.... the unions have never promised "job security"....with that being said, what's gonna happen here is the carriers are going to offer another HORRIBLE contract BUT they'll promise to keep 2 man crews so the TE & Y unions will accept and leave the other brothers and sisters high and dry to again accept some POS contract offer.... then we'll all complain and do the same exact thing again in 5 years

I’m tired of all of the corruption! With that being said in the last 9 months I have been working my rear end off on the xtra board and I have paid off my credit card, and all debt other than cars and house. Downsizing house, and one vehicle soon. All these fancy things I have don’t mean much since I can’t enjoy them due to workplace stress and the lack of actually wanting to work for this company anymore. I have had job offers from other companies in my area that pay a little less with a way better quality of life according to their HR and indeed reviews. Money isn’t everything and I won’t let this union or company rule my life anymore. Good luck everyone enjoy your family enjoy your life you only get one.

Unfortunately it appears the unions will just give the Carrier whatever it wants. The leadership has shown that it will do nothing to already blatant agreement violations – meal periods and allowing CMS to place people wherever they want disregarding the 24 hour bump come to mind immediately.

It's rough to support the union when the people on the ground are busting their asses to make sure the Carrier upholds their end of the agreement but the Local Chairmen refuse to get involved. We're up to 10% of our workforce being cut across the board...when will something be done?
