Saw this on BN Facebook page. Still see that BN thinks they’re above competing and that they have competitors. They’ll lose a $50 sale quibbling over $1.40?!?!
Same old attitude.
“ I wanted to buy two copies of a $30 hardcover at our local mall. The service desk person said B&N matched online prices. The book is $25.20 on Amazon. When I went to check out, the manager insisted she would only match B&N online price of $25.90. I bought them from Amazon. So for $1.40 difference B&N gave up a $50+ sale and lost a store customer.”

New owners.
Same old policies. Same old bad management running the place.
Nothing has changed. Nothing done to instill confidence in this poorly run store.
“If you want to browse through a big shelf of books, hopefully, BN will still be in business; if you do, and still buy all your books on Amazon, then bite Me”
I quit BN after they fired good loyal full timers, invested in the company.
Hopefully BN will go out if business.
And, I buy ALL my books on Amazon now !
“Because B&M and booksellers cost money, and you get what you pay for.”
You get what you pay for?
You mean firing all the full timers & replacing them with minimum wage part timers ?!
You probably think nothing of spending $$ at Starbucks
Same price for Starbucks in BN cafe!
BOTH places are too expensive.
“ If the absolute lowest cost is important to you, then shop on Amazon. ”
Surprise: EVERYONE wants to pay the lowest price!
There’s 2 gas stations across the street from each other. Which one do YOU go to ?!
I work at BN and see this all the time. I agree that BN should not match Amazon's price.
Think about this, the customer left their home, drove how many miles, in traffic, had to park, walk to the store and when they found out that they could not get the book $1.40 cheaper they left and repeated the same process in reverse. Not sure but I think they spent more than $1.40 on gas. And guess their time isn't valuable. Not a smart consumer. You are in the store and have it already - immediate gratification - eat the buck forty.
You probably think nothing of spending $$ at Starbucks
What is the link to the B&N Facebook Page?
I have to step up here for once and defend the new owners (as well as the old owners) of BN.
Nobody sells something for less than they paid for it. This is what happened to Borders, and plenty of other retailers over the years. If you do, you go out of business. As Amazon is, like, a billion times bigger than BN, they get a slightly better price on books than BN. Not counting in loss-leaders, Amazon can make a two or three cent profit by undercutting BN.
Back when I was there, BN didn't even match their online prices in-store. Now, apparently, they are. They just can't match Amazon's predatory pricing.
If the absolute lowest cost is important to you, then shop on Amazon. If you want to browse through a big shelf of books, hopefully, BN will still be in business; if you do, and still buy all your books on Amazon, then bite me. Because B&M and booksellers cost money, and you get what you pay for.
Wanted to give new regime a chance.
Sounds like New owners same old c-ap.
That attitude has turned previously loyal customers against them. Glad to see the new owners are carrying on the tradition.
- I.P. BN
That sounds about right.
