I was informed today that I'm being included in a RIF.
My last day will be 11/13.
In a way I am relieve that I can get away from this mis-managed company.
I wouldn't trust the upper management to run a lemonade stand.

I was Laid off last Wednesday after 18 years as a BST in NOVA, I knew the manager and director for most of that time and neither one of them had any feelings towards dismissing me. They took my badges, laptop, test sets, tools and keys and gave me a ride home. It was the most humiliating experience ever. I felt like I wasted 18 years of my life. My Mom worked for the executive offices of the white house for 30 years, she always told me it was an honor to serve, but this was not an honor working for S-stream.
You guys get overtime when called out after hours?

With call outs between 2am-3am 4-5 nights a week I am not doing it. Ticket opened at 9am, still called out at 2am. Ticket opened for 5 days, still called out at 2am. Guy in the ISP NOC said they dont send tickets down during the daytime because they dont want to wait for a tech thats trying to multi task so they let tickets sit until overnight and do a callout. F that
On-call every other week? Bro, that's been my life for the past 3 years.
Repair is so FUBAR it's sad. Phone number for LCON is part of the service that's down. No suite number listed in an 18 story building. Checked building directory, got a suite number..... and it's empty. Repair calls the other number for the LCON and it goes to a voicemail that hasn't been set up yet. So, let's just sit on the ticket, with the customer down, and wait for them to call so we can get a valid phone number. Unreal.
I was let go as part of recent layoffs, 12 years of being a BST developing great relationships with customers across NY State. I gave up a ton of personal time with after hour cuts and call outs for network issues. Repair is an absolute joke offshore and NOC seems clueless on how to trouble shoot outages. I will look back and laugh plus wonder how I did it for so many years...
We lost 25% of the net techs and 15% of the BSTs in my area. I was told we were going back to utilizing contractors for installs. They actually paid a contractor $5K to install a SFP in the past. Company stands zero chance at surviving. I am refusing to increase my time oncall as a net tech. They are going to want me oncall every other week now in my footprint after these layoffs, go to hell.

13 people received their notices today of RIF. Laid off!
The employees affected were employed in Wisconsin and Iowa. Windstream has a knack for laying off /terminating employees right before the holidays.
Hang in there. Might be a shock now, but trust me in a few weeks when you find something better you will wake up everyday with a smile on your face asking yourself why did you put up with these clowns for so long.
