It’s saturday morning and I get a call from the RD. What is going on with payroll? Within 30 seconds, I realize that we have lost control of our company to people who come from failing companies like Sears and Macy’s! The message was loud and clear. Review the schedules, send people home today, cut hours next week, and hit your number the following week. Fearing for my job just like any other day, I schedule a call with all my store managers and deliver the message. Unfortunately, they get it. Another load of bad news and hating their jobs more.
After the call, I hate myself. We are supposed to be leaders. A leader would stand up and say, “ tell Emmanuel to get his pharmacist’s license or work in the front store for a month or so, or just shut up.” Does the guy realize that there are 1,200+ stores listed as in trouble in the pharmacy? Does he realize that immunization performance is low because our stores are days behind? Does he realize that FS’s are weeks behind on planograms? Does he realize that people making payroll is only second to staffing shortages because people keep quitting? Does he get the BS that is dealt out at the DVP and RD level?
Here is my comment to our great SVP. Don’t send out an email to your reports about payroll that states “this is not good.” Take the five minutes to ask the real question. Is it because every district is horrible or is there a problem with the payroll? Be better!
