From what I hear from those still working there, employees are leaving voluntarily - in droves....no need for a layoff. They see the writing on the wall - too bad others cannot. R.I.P. Windstream. So glad I am out of there...
"That update your resume stuff has been said for two years"
That was BEFORE we filed for bankruptcy, all bets are out the window
and in the hands of the courts now.
"A buyer could be a negative or positive for employees"
The wireline business has lost LOTS of value, ask TT
why our contract with UNITI isn't worth it. ILEC won't
die, but it may change. Not so sure we can say the same
for the CLEC business.
“ The company is even expanding and opening those retail stores in areas a friend said.”
They just opened a new store in Kannapolis, NC (ILEC territory). I don’t know if it just replaces an older location in Kannapolis or it’s the first in town. Some hoopla in local paper a few days ago.
Company is definitely pushing FTTH in this area where the locally-owned Concord Telephone Co. built fiber everywhere 10 years ago. Windstream bought them then never lit up the fiber until 1-2 years ago. It’s some cheap, low-hanging fruit that went unpicked a long time ago.
Charter is sketchy, so I hope they do well here!
On a long enough timeline, everyone’s life expectancy is zero.
That update your resume stuff has been said for two years, yes there have been layoffs and some rough patches, but it has seemed to have died down. The company is even expanding and opening those retail stores in areas a friend said. Still doing those all star trips for many departments my friend said. This site has really died in traffic as well. A buyer could be a negative or positive for employees and customers. Still don’t think WIn will go away completely as it is the only providers in many areas 5g won’t touch for years.
Sometime in the spring, the X factor is our court case with the UNITI. We still have alot of overhead that is not needed. Too much redundancy between all of their heritage companies.
Update your LinkedIn profile now and start the search. Do you really want to compete for the same job the other 10 people on your team want?
6 months from now this will be a totally different company.
We typically see a voluntary separation offer in field operations in November, with sometime in December being when you are notified if they accept your paperwork, and your last day is typically before the end of the year.
HR can reject paperwork based on a business need.
And if they don't get enough heads the voluntary route, then the not so voluntary route comes into play. 4th quarter is hard, and being the last opportunity to show a good annual performance. I'm surprised layoffs haven't been more severe, and I fully expect more before January 1 rolls around.
Yep and November too. However most of the layoffs will happen just before and after bankruptcy. I’ll be curious how Win will create an accounting profit.
We had people let go in Missouri about this time in 2017. Then again in 2018.
Every department is thinned out. I do not see any layoffs.
Can’t wait to see the new comp plan after the revolving credit door shuts in their face.
