Part of UNIT's business plan is to diversify away from WINMQ. You never want to put all of your eggs in one basket especially now.
This is a totally separate deal not involving Windstream.
They're trying to broaden their customer base by adding new properties but that takes capital. They can't raise more funds on Wall Street as long as the Windstream lease dispute is hanging over their head.
This was a complicated deal they were able to swing without much extra cash. Don't expect to see many more until the lease issue gets settled.
