Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

We are doomed if something doesn't change

When's the last time you had a day when at least one customer (and more often two, three, or ten) didn't complain about something?

It's either no customer service, (new and cheaper) employees who have no idea how to help them and have probably never read a book outside of a school assignment, books in wrong sections, boxes all around, the general state of the store...

We here those and a myriad of other complaints on a daily basis.

Does anybody believe we'll actually see people return if something doesn't change drastically and soon?

p-ss-d off A LOT of customers today with the annual sell all your collectables Funko pops to the first 3-4 people ( who’s only “job” in life is to resale at 4 times the cost on e bay)
By not setting realistic limits this joke occurs constantly.
NOTHING at BN changes.

Then ,when they lose their jobs: Theyll be angry and talk about how they’ve been wronged.
The thousands who were blindsided were wronged & have a right to be angry. If you stayed after the company that did that- you get no sympathy when it happens to you.

True ! And a lot of ex customers who couldn’t find books or magazines ,sitting in boxes, in receiving. Strict on sale books not on the shelves on release day. Dirty bathrooms, new part timers who have no book knowledge,etc.

No amount of CHANGE will save that DOOMED company.
For many ex employees ( their friends & families) BN is already dead. For those hangers on, not doing anything to save themselves, hard to feel sorry for them when they’re fired also.

The Riggios showed no brains, running the company into the ground. They showed no loyalty to the employees ,on the front lines, making the money for them. No honor.
This new company? Also shows no brains. For buying a company brand that’s been tainted and now has a reputation for treating employees & customers with disrespect. A lot of loyal customers, seeing the lack of loyalty of the company, will no longer put money in their pocket.

When WATERSTONE takes over FULLY and checked store conditions, and employee stats. Well, the rest of any full timers will be gone or told 2 things:

  1. Hours reduced to part time

BN did not think through what went with the employees they fired. The business from friends, family AND regular customers!
I too have moved on. And I, my family , my friends, customers I became friendly with and friends of friends who’ve read it on my social media pages- NONE of us give BN , a penny anymore! Don’t care who buys it or runs it..will NEVER patronize a company that treats their foundation , long term,career employees, the way they did.

At my BN the management team actively breaks up any time employees talk to each other. They tell us to get to work. They hate seeing us interact with each other. Some of our regulars have picked up on it. NO TEAM atmosphere at my store, Yet they can talk 15-30 minutes without doing a thing. I saw my Asst Mgr spend 25 min talking to another bookseller (Her "Buddy") at Customer Service and do nothing else. Yet there was recovery to do and magazines needed to be straighten. Yup everyone is miserable and tired of the double standard.

They will get their Karma soon. You don't spend 700 Mil on a company and keep management that can't run a profitable store.

Even if BN drastically changes, it’s already lost a lot of previously loyal customers!
BN can “change” all they want but it will all be surface changes to deceive those remaining customers to stay.
