Agree. I think the message was these individuals are not doing the job well.

As long as the person can do the job, do it well does a degree really matter.

In some areas, you can be in a grade 4 / 5 position with only a high school diploma. I know a finance person who is probably making 6 figures with a high school diploma.

1gck: Wait a minute, are you saying that the leaders of the information security organization were not trained in information security?? How could that be?

In my former group, no managers had relevant degree or training in the subject matter or in management. This was GSS so no IT degree or training, no security degree or training, no mgmt degree or training. Interesting approach taken by CISO. Then again, most know what her deal is.

When I was in XIG/XRCW (research center webster), 60% were Ph.D.s which was unacceptable to Sophie Vandebroek. She wanted that number at 80% and we were expected to get there. As we know though, things fell apart and XRCW was eliminated before that happened. First spun off to PARC, then moved to Conduent before eliminating it.

Degree requirements depend on your job. Some groups require a minimum of a Bachelors Degree. In addition specific certifications may be required for promotions. Xerox also does validate degrees and certifications in some groups like Global Procurement.
